Both Wood and Meesen traded in the same draft and picked in the same draft !!!

The crows picked Meesen @ 8 and the Lions picked Wood @ 18 in 2004 !!!

Should of the crows picked the local boy Wood ???
It is what it is !!!

Probably did but it's hard to have a go at them, the percentages were in their favour the way they played it back in 04'

The Pies are the big winners. Pick 14 a fair bit to give away but man, I would be excited if I were a Pies fan. They have a great young list and have secured a young ruckman who will be there for 10 years and it's something they really needed.

Hate to say it but well done Collingwood.

Agreed, throw a Cameron Wood with another year behind him and possibly a fit Josh Fraser into the Prelim Final this year (or maybe just one of those) and they would have been premiers.

In a total of 70% game time out of 200 you gathered this how???

Anyway, Moran is so average, pass.

Some reasonable names on this list who have played important roles for their clubs, not like a youngster looking for more opportunity elsewhere. A part of the modern AFL that I don't really like, but that's the way it is.

Do you reckon there are more "names" being bandied about this year because of the supposed inferiority of this years' draft (another thing I don't like about the modern AFL, when they rate the "quality" of a draft - after all, we are talking about young, immature men at the main crossroads of their future)

Dutchy

not to mention, people are praising the Pies for picking Wood up with Pick 14

I say, at this stge of their careers, both Wood and Meesen are rowing in the same boat,

Both players were drafted in the same year, spent three years at their first club, both players failed to make an impact, both players have plenty to do before they can be considered an AFL footballer

most importantly if Cameron Wood was a certainty to be a top ruckman, why would the lions trade him

I have seen Cameron Wood play a lot of footy, their is no way at present he is worth pick 14, Loins have done extremely well, the Pies have paid a heavy price because they have no ruck stocks

Hawks look like they will be observers for this trade week, with no further developments with talks re - Meyers from Richmond. There has been much interest over some of the Hawks, but players that are unlikely to be traded, Birchall, Roughed, Boyle

That could go for anyone though Wedgie, Throw a Brendon Fevola into the WCE side and have a fit squad then they would have beaten Collingwood and then they may have been Premiers.

Unfortunatley it doesnt work like that.

Sydney Dog- On Cam Wood, i have also seen a lot of him and he has shown more than Meesen, no doubt about that IMO. I really believe that Wood will become an excellent tap ruckman. Great pick up by Collingwood

My point was they've recruited well to cover the spot that cost them.

The interesting part about trading is fans might argue a certain player is only worth a no 14 draft pick or a no 114 draft pick but depending on the players size, skill and abilities they're worth different things for different clubs.

Cameron Wood will be a good tap ruckman who will do a bit of work around the ground for Collingwood. For that reason Matthews was apparently not very keen to trade him at all.. However given that he has been traded, Travis Johnstone, just turned 27, should give us three years or so good service in the middle

The Lions' 2008 midfield now looks quite strong. Power, Johnstone, Black, Lappin, Adcock, Rischitelli, Selwood and Stiller with ruck support from Charman, Leuenberger and Beau McDonald will be very competitive. Unfortunately Johnstone's arrival will probably result in Richard Hadley will be traded.
