AFL Round 16

Talk on the national game

I think he will be cleared. If this happened anywhere else on the field, we would not be talking about it, but because he hits the post, its an issue.
He clearly was shepherding JJ to allow the ball through which happens most goal attempts.

Taylor suits him more than Tex. Apologies to Taylor Swift who would be tougher. ;)

AFL Round 16

Postby RustyCage » Sat Jul 08, 2017 1:40 pm

The ball had bounced a meter past the goal line before Tex even thought about pushing JJ. He wasn't shepparding. He knew what he was doing. A brain fade.

Spot on. The most staggering part is how JJ wasn't awarded a free kick and the goal disallowed - he clearly bumped him in the back.

You see the beauty of pausing a video is you can get the real story...here is another still shot...doesnt look a metre past the goal line when Tex "even thought" about "pushing" JJ...ball is above his head.

Clearly unnecessary though, JJ didnt brace for any impact as it was already 100% a goal.

So we want players not to shepherd on the goal line now? JJ was trying to spoil the ball. Tex was trying to stop him. You can see the ball wasn't over the line. Happens every game. If the goal post wasn't there, it's a non issue.
Even in the still shot you can see the direction Tex is trying to push him towards.

I disagree, JJ had given up as he couldnt physically get near it. A duty of care needs to be taken by players near posts and fences (or even walls in the case of Norwood). And it wasn't a shepherd, it was a clear push in the back, you shepherd from in front or the side, not behind.
It should have been a free kick (amd the goal cancelled) but not worth suspension, maybe just a reminder of the duty of care players should have.

Don't think he was tying to shepherd, thinking he was trying to give JJ some niggle given he hasn't been coping with it. Very clumsy, as Tex regularly is when trying to flex the muscle. Honestly don't think he would have been trying to put him into the post, but if he has a duty of care then I guess he could have a case to answer. How it wasn't a free kick I don't know, IIRC even the commentators missed it at the time.

Tex is in front of JJ when he starts the shepherd.
Anyway, agree there is a duty of care, but in this instance I think he's entitled to lay a shepherd
The umpire was saying to the WB players the contact with the post was accidental.
The commentators eventually started questioning why it wasnt a free

I know players often make wrong decisions under pressure, but Jamie Elliott wtf?? Pass from hb though the corridor intended for Treloar with 4 Bombers around him, one of which was Daniher. Easy turnover and Bombers goal

Looking like Collingwood will get Smacked today, if it happens as bad as it looks it might, they may make the call on Buckley this week

That first half from Collingwood was as bad as I've seen this year.
