Geelong Season 2011

Talk on the national game

were fairly average v brisbane

got out of jail with Brown and clark being injured as they caused issues to our defence

a concerning issue is the leaking of goals the last 3 weeks. Sort of understandable v west coast in perth, but unacceptable v essendon and brisbane.

perhaps the players enjoyed the time in the sun, but im confident Scotty will get the lads to really go for the kill v Richmond on sunday at home.

should win 5 of the next 6 games - collingwood round 24 is potentially a loss.

the next 3 games should result in a min of 10 goal wins

Fairly average? That is an overly kind assessment of our performance. The Cats have been training very heavily over the last few weeks as is our normal preparation at this time of year. In 2009 at the same time of the year we had a similar stumble and we began to hit the wall a bit this time last year also.

The selected side against Brisbane was way too tall. We had no Otto and we played Hawkins AND West as well as having Vardy, Lonergan and Taylor in the side. Little wonder the Lions were able to flip it out over the back and score easy goals. We were very one dimensional against Brisbane and it was only the brilliance of Pods (nothing underwhelming about his performance) with some encouraging support from Hawkins that made the win happen.

As far as Brisbane's injury woes are concerned both were key forwards but we got right on top in the middle of the ground so Browny wouldn't have been seeing any action anyway. Perhaps Clark would have been shuffled down back but the reason why we won the game is that Brisbane do not have the same level of fitness as Hawthorn and could not continue with the Hawthorn like game plan they employed. If you play a short passing game you have to run to space and Brisbane aren't as well developed as the Hawks.

Never mind that shit about the umps either as we missed out on some frees as well. What we need from here is to start settling on what our best lineup is. I'd like to see Varcoe spelled IMMEDIATELY for his non effort in that crucial contest last week and it would be good to see Shagga Burns and Wojo back. Scarlo is a no brainer as an in for Geelong but it's back to the Magoos for Hogan who won't make it and West who is superfolous to our needs at present. Vardy could probably do with a spell as well.

We can and should be playing much better but it's September that counts.

Corey Bowen is an SANFL ump. Couldn't believe he got an AFL gig.

Too old, too slow...

Melbourne- 186 points
Gold Coast- 150 points

After we beat Adelaide by thirty goals, we'll have a week off, then we'll embarrass Sydney as well.

Lid Off.

I'd settle for the four points against the Crowies. They beat us last year and AAMI is not a happy hunting ground.

Do you reckon me and my daughter would be safe getting tickets at the gate on sunday, or should we get some up front? I'll be heading down from Berri and didn't think it would be a sellout but maybe i should get a ticket up front just in case?

Some Catpeople where wishing for a tough contest but beware of what you ask for I say. Football Park is not a happy hunting ground for the Cats and Bickley has freed up the Crows a bit and has even managed to get them doing a forward press somehow while he has done it. I am wondering why we don't respect Sloane who carved us up at Footy park last year as well. I thought McKernan did a good job at fullback taking over Rutten's place but some of the more experienced Crows such as Thompson and Vince let us back in at times.

Mooney will cop a holiday because of his poor record (not too sure how long his 2006 quartet will remain a factor at the MRP) and typical of many of Mooney's misdemeanours it was clumsy rather than malicious. Kelly had a massive second half and Byrnes chipped in with a vital couple of snags as a sub. In short we got caught out a bit after playing a couple of soft games and we didn't respect the road trip or the opposition enough. I thought our best players were Harry Taylor and Tom Lonergan who stood up in the face of an onslaught of incoming ball because we got owned at the clearances (yet again!). The Crowies rucks did a good job and Vardy looked a little out of his depth. Bring back West I reckon.

The bye has come at a good time but tonight's effort won't win us finals.

When you look at the side, Chappy started on the pine, Otto played up forward (Vardy rucked), and the lesser lights, Josh Hunt, Christensen, Lonergan, played some really good footy.

Chappy, Ling, Stevie all know how to play in September. 8)

Very close :) ;) Any win interstate is a good one, regardless of the margin.

I thought Christensen had his quietest game for weeks and Hunt was horrible as usual.
