Explain why it's a good move when you know little about it?

I know a contract means nothing in the modern world ( see Mark Thompson ) but surely this makes it easier for the club ( or Craig ) to cut ties at their will?

Its due to the club wanting to use his expertise even if he is no longer coaching. A man of craigs intelect (doesnt matter what you think about his coaching ability, you cant doubt or question his qaulifications) and expereince is hard to come by.

Granted. But surely when ( not if ) he is sacked as coach, you'd think he would find it hard to stay there. Agree?

depends on how it is handled. after putting so much time in to the club and it is a mutual agreement then why wouldn't he stay on?

How would the new coach like that ???
At all levels, players and support personnel form strong ties with coaches...
Would make it difficult for the incoming in my opinion...

Look at Melbourne or the Kangas? melbourne had chris connolly run for it, he didnt get it and Bailey did, and now CC is working in the footy department. The kangas had crocker as the interim coach, applied for the main job, fell short to Brad Scott and is now an assistant to him IIRC. Shows it can work if everything is handled correctly and both parties are happy to do so

Main reason because it is a more realistic work agreement that most employees in the work force are used to. Craig has made it quite clear that he will never coach somewhere else and in reality if he is sacked/resigns, there are numerous sporting bodies predominantly outside of AFL football that would snap him up in an instant.
If it all goes to plan and the crows win a flag with craig at the helm (not saying it will happen, but if) and he no longer feels the desire to be a head coach, this makes his future involvement within the club a lot clearer without the need to devise some succession plan with a designated replacement ala sydney and collingwood.

I reckon that's why it is a good move - it can remove some of the cr@p that goes with contract negotiations. I think Craigy will remain at the Adelaide Footy Club for many years to come (not as coach though), and this new agreement allows him to slot into a new role a hell of a lot easier.

Takes a fair bit of guts IMO to remove the safety net of a coaching contract - not sure how many other AFL coaches would agree, or even be in the position to do it.

It didn't get much traction. Although if it did it would be a pretty good chant and certainly a team-lifter. The current Crows chants are somewhat boring...

So, Adelaide fans getting ready to "give it" to Bock this week?

Port fans ( not me, couldn't bring myself to "boo" a bloke I rate very highly ) gave it to Burgoyne of Friday night, not sure why to be honest. Why give them extra motivation to perform?

Cos he's a turncoat bastard?
Cos he left your club for cash?
Because he got the sooks cos he didn't make captain?

Your hatred shouldn't and won't give him much motivation but sledging his greedy arse should make you feel a whole lot better.

Having said all that I don't have that much hate to Ablett surprisingly, just glad last year's circus has moved on. I suppose I won't know for sure until we play em.

I am sick of hearing how good the crows are...

Postby Dog_ger » Mon May 09, 2011 7:55 pm

I am sick of hearing how good the players are and how good they are going to do.

When are they going to achieve what the coach and media expects of them....

Something has to change...

1. Players.

2. Coaches.

3. Management.

Triggy, your job must be on the line...

I have no confidence in the crows Management.

Someone had to be accountable.

Something has to change

Q. If anyone of us was the boss of a company that was not improving, what would happen...?

A. Don't come Monday.

Seriuosly the fans only ever "boo" the good players, cant see the crows booing Jono Griffen when he plays against us! It is a dumb practice to be honest, I went Friday night and heard the port supporters doing it to Burgoyne, like that would really bother him?? I know that there will be crows supporters that do it to him this weekend but i rekon he would be used to it by now since "the handbag" incident ;)
