AFL 2025

Talk on the national game

Re: AFL 2025

The league did not take into account the fact finals games were more important than home and away clashes (or the Snoop Dogg defence!) but was swayed by compelling medical testimony about the impact of the ban on Rankine and future ramifications in reducing its 5 weeks to 4.

AFL STATEMENT - IZAK RANKINE - ADDENDUM

The AFL wishes to advise that despite the comprehensive and exhaustive investigation into the conduct of Adelaide Crows player Izak Rankine in relation to an incident during the fourth quarter of the Round 23 match between Adelaide and Collingwood on Saturday night, which resulted in Rankine receiving a four-match sanction and has been ordered to undertake further Pride in Sport training. the AFL is pleased to re-affirm Snoop Dogg as the headline entertainment act for the 2025 AFL Grand Final.

Snoop Dogg was engaged after an exhaustive review was conducted to ensure that he represents the values and ethics of the AFL, and to this end, his engagement has been unanimously signed off by the AFL Integrity Unit.

It should be noted that the AFL takes these matters very seriously and the investigations and actions described above support that commitment.

If the AFL actually had a consistent sanction for this type of offence, and not an increasing scale like they are trying to do, then it would have been 4 weeks from day one and we all move on. Now one side lose their shit over it being 4 and not 5, and the other side lose their shit cause it is 4 and not 3.

At the end of the day, make a flat 4 week sanction for first offense and 12 week sanction for 2nd offence.

I listened to two different Tim Silvers interviews on the radio on the way home, thought he spoke well and debunked some of the rumors going around

Wasn’t happy the integrity unit had leaked some information to the media.

Isnt this what everyone complains about? The set sanctions of the MRO and tribunal system have been proven to be wrong and inflexible time and time again. I have no problem with each case being judged on its own circumstances.
So if a player gets racially abused and responds with a homophobic taunt you would be ok with 4 as opposed to someone who is unprovoked getting the same penalty?
