Outgoing Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley will receive a cash bonus somewhere near the $400,000 mark as he ends his 13-year stay at the club.

7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary has exclusive details of the backdated payout, which is from money owed to Hinkley dating back to the COVID period of 2020 and 2021.

Cleary also said on Seven’s The Agenda Setters that the $400K will come out of the club’s soft cap (the amount of money an AFL club can spend on its football department) next year.

What a complete shit show.

They’re really are going to have to “compare the market” to find assistants for Carr next year….
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The lack of scrutiny since 2015 has been staggering at times. Whately still has a 'Kenny' poster in his bedroom from the Geelong days.

How long will it take for the stench of Kenny to dissipate from Alberton?

What is Kenny’s legacy from his tenure?
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

If there's a stench it's in the board room that kept appointing him not in the coaches office. He kept doing his job and when he needed to show he was the man for it he kept getting the job done and getting his side into finals.

His legacy? The club is in a much better place than it was when he arrived.

Yep!

If he retired last year you 400% say 'he left the place in better shape than when he got there'. Obviously, this year has put a bit of a dampener on that but still think he can hold his head high and say it.

Not many coaches can say that about their jobs.

When GFG went tits up earlier this year we had Santos and KFC step up to cover the shortfall.

In 2013 when he took over if the same thing had happened to VIP Services we would have shut the doors.

The Adelaide Oval stuff was already locked in prior to Kenny taking over. They were much more competitive in 2013 and 2014, but how much of that was Kenny versus natural improvement (and younger blokes having been given experience under Primus, starting to come good)?

Given his good but not great tenure (7 finals series out of 13 seasons but not GFs, poor record in big games etc.) I suspect he just took over the club when the playing list was 'on the up'. 12 wins in 2013 v 5 in 2012 is not insignificant, but then again they reverted to the mean pretty quick.
