If, and let's assume the rumor mill is right, North are offering 5 x $750k that would be reflective of at least a 1st round pick or an established player, wouldn't it?

In a fair trade yes...
But if Polec wants to go, North will get him in the pre-season draft as they have priced anyone out of the market.

Well played North Melbourne, well played, it looks like that war chest has finally come good and you've landed your "big fish".

Makes me wonder, their play at Kelly, Martin, Sloane et al, were they all a ruse just to keep the cash in their back pocket for Polec?

@Spargo will be beside himself with joy. New guernsey for him next year with a new number!

The thing I love most about this is both Port will be worse off without him and North will be worse off with him

From PAFC website

While his 2014 and 2017 years were pretty good as well, in 2018 Polec seems to have taken his game to another level. He has achieved career highs for kicks (24 against Brisbane in Round 3), handballs (16 against North Melbourne in Round 6), disposals (34 against North Melbourne in Round 6), marks (12 against Brisbane in Round 3) and tackles (12 against North Melbourne in Round 6). He is also ranked 14th in the competition for metres gained with a total of 6558.

North got a good look at him in Rd 6

Does the AFL have a minimum salary cap spend rule?

Besides the minimum player wage.

Taken his game to a new level this year, if we get him & he holds/propels his form again, then I’ll be ecstatic.
We’re still a very big chance to get Kelly at the end of next season.

This was Norths proposal to Polec and his management.

Could have something to do with the amount too.

Two birds.

I'd rather overpay a guy to entice him to the club, then overpay a pleb or two on the fringe of the list to get over the minimum spend amount.

You blokes have turned around on Polec faster than Elton John would turn around at a Manpower show.

Polec would have to come via the PSD then?
Kelly's the best player in the comp I reckon & it would require at least 3 first round picks minimum over 2 years to get him.

Do North have that many picks without having to trade for Polec also?

Would have to trade for Polec (one wonders why we got rid of Lindsay Thomas - could have used him now :) ) Kelly will be a free agent = no trade

Kelly is no trade just $$$$. So really if young have the war chest it's easily done.

Polec might cost you a first rounder though. But Polec is 25 and Kelly is 23 so brining in 2 guys in there prime for one younger player might be worth it.

Does he play for the 49ers?

Ben McKay and a 2nd rounder should get the deal done.

Cheers!

Might be on the cards if GWS think they will get more value now
