last year they had eddie doing a biased commentary for a collingwood game on fox, did anyone hear it? seems like an interesting idea

5AA do this for the crows every week.

Melbourne radio catering for its Melbourne market has 9 teams to try and cover, do you really think they are going to have time to talk about the interstate teams too?

unashamedly so though, they know their target audience

just reckon there is scope for more of this to happen with digital radio etc. could easily multicast games catering for different supporters. if there was a market for it.

or maybe step back slightly and have a comedy style commentary with dave hughes and mick molloy, or a fantasy footy based commentary, etc etc.

Yes, but they focus on the few inner city teams to ramp up, Carlton, St Kilda, Melbourne, Essendon...
Richmond would get the ramp up too if they ever looked promising.
(The Bulldogs did get the promotion treatment in the late 1990s when they last showed form.)

Even Geelong only get much of a mention if none of the above look like having any hope of winning the flag.

More fans = more interest

a lot of the radio shows are driven by those that call in, more fans = more callers in theory.

I am sure Geelong has its own extremely one sided radio station.

I agree there are good commercial and local reasons for it, but it is still irritating.
Especially if you don't follow a local team and you are stuck in Melbourne listening to it... :D

(I can see why it works the other way for those disloyal South Australians who follow VFL teams. )

We are not disloyal in fact we are totally loyal to our VFL/AFL sides as we followed them first and a lot of us our 10+ years members.

Remember the Cows and the Paps are only club sides as the are called the Adelaide Football Club & Port Adelaide Football Club.

If it is a State Game that is different then I will follow South Australia. One of my most treasured possessions is my State Jumper from 2002. It was one of my proudest moments, representing my state and getting to wear the state jumper with enormous pride.

with digital radio and TV, i can definitely see multicast commentary being a commonplace thing. i might be mistaken but i think it happens for some EPL games as well.

Yeah I thought it wasnt bad- A comedy call would be alright for a novelty factor but It'd wear pretty thin quickly.
