Showdown 24

Talk on the national game

he was shepherding his team mates, putting his body on the line.

Watch the replay and you will not see any other player near. The ball went over Jericho's head and if bogan went for the ball he would have been in the clear.

There were no Port player to be shepherded. the nearest port player was at least 20mtrs away and was not going for the ball. After the hit the ball bounced twice travelling 10-15mts away from Bogan and further away from the nearest Port player and he had to run passed Bogan to get the ball.
Stop making up stories to suit your point of view.

The man's a thug and cost Port a much needed goal.

Im not making up stories to suit me, Brogan is not a thug, you are just going on a non-football incident.
You are making a big deal out of nothing, it was a fair contest, no matter what, even if he wasn't shepherding.
I think you are just a disappointed Crows fan that can't handle that Port gave them a run for their money and also cost the Crows a few injuries.

YES you won, but weren't the Crows the big favourites to win easily?

Crows would benefit with Brogan in their side, but too bad Port have got him

I didnt see too much wrong with Port's physical approach. Although Brogan did seem to be sniping IMO.
True old style Port stuff.
Thomas's tackle was pretty much spot on, but there was a definite intention to dump Basset as hard as he could.
You just cant get away with that stuff these days.
It reminded me a bit of Pickett on Cornes (last Year?)

I thought it was a great match.
Port answered their critics.....but Adelaide had the answers to Port's toughness.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

There's plenty of chances in a game for players to go the slam to finish off a tackle however only a few actually go through with it.

Thomas clearly had stopped Bassett, finished the play and then made a conscious decision to go the slam when he didn't have to. Same as he did against Hentschell, same as Byron used to do. He was just trying to play the enforcer role and wouldn't have wanted to concuss Bass, but the risk of serious injury remains.

Brogan's was fine IMO FWIW.

Exactly.

The concussion may have been unintentional, but the slam to the ground was quite deliberate.
He's been reported for 'rough conduct' and I'd be surprised if he's found not guilty.

Too right. He could've eased off after Bassett got his kick away but instead he decided to ram him into the ground. So lucky it wasn't another Hentschel. Thomas' tackling technique needs to be looked at before he causes any more serious injuries.

I got home from the game not long ago. What a wonderful game of footy it was and a great atmosphere to boot. The game was over umpired though, there were some soft frees given and for a while there Port got a free every time there was a ball up.

As for the Bassett incident, nothing in it.. it's unfortunate for Fred that his arms got pinned in the tackle which meant he couldn't brace himself for impact.

The Brogan knocked in the middle didn't look great from behind the southern goals but he's a tool anyway.

Fantastic win by the Crows after what happened in the first half, we almost got over run and I didn't like the chips backwards at the end but we won!! Port played a terrible brand of footy at times, for a team which prides itself on attacking footy and bags the Crows for playing possession footy.. they were atrocious. The funniest thing was in the Crow forward pocket 3rd Qtr and it was maybe S Burgoyne, could be wrong, who danced around and held the ball for a while before walking gutlessly over the boundary line. Great decision by the ump to call that deliberate.

GO YOU CROWS!!!!!!!!

Yes it can be bought up in conversation as I rekon every one there said is that the same bloke that tackled Hentschell !!!

And guess what it was !!!

And guess what, no sensible football supporter said that the tackle on Hentschel was worthy of a report!!

The same bloke - the same intetion - just a luckier outcome today !!!

You are kidding,aren't you mate?

The same intention? The club needs to address how he tackles? FFS!

Hentschel,a once in a decade accident.
Bassett,a twice or three time a year incident (the knocked out part, not the tackle) and he had the same intention?

Why is Brogan a thug? he stopped a crows player from tackling his own player. I don't think there was anything in it.

the hit on Jericho, Bogan didn't go for the ball he went for the player. The stupid thing is , if he went for the ball he would have got it and kicked into Ports forward lines. He should be suspended for charging, at least!

The game is footy not thuggery!!
he wanted to give jericho a brogan nose!!

P burgoyne and Vince got the same votes 12 but vince won on a countback. C cornes was next with 8.

And Matt Thomas has been reported for his tackle on bass. rough conduct. but pickett did it to kane cornes at the MCG last year and got off. so the Afl set a precedent last year. but they may want to show players its not on now. could go any way for tommo
