So 2 "away" games in Darwin for Port. Did they receive any compensation to play up there?

I don't believe so. I would think the added exposure to an already sympathetic NT market twice in one season would be of benefit. Port, over the years, have had many NT players and with our first few games up there in the mid 00's fielding sides including Wanganeen,Pickett, Burgoyne ( x2 ), Motlop and co. we have reportedly a strong following within the Indigenous community up there.

And, to be honest, if a Melbourne based club is willing to sell a game to the NT to play Port I think we would rather play them on neutral ( yet familiar ) territory as opposed to a ground in Melbourne and give them some advantage.

Port are compensated. From AFL.com.au

"Saturday's match is the second of two Darwin home games the Demons secured as part of the 2009 agreement struck between the Northern Territory Government and the AFL that also included Port Adelaide, Richmond and the Bulldogs. "

By all reports next years draft is the 2001 equivalent (the famous superdraft of Hodge, Ball, Judd, Bartel, Ablett and co.)
I also believe that the priority picks return to being before round 1 (correct me if I’m wrong) and the concessions to the new clubs are significantly reduced. Short term pain, long term gain?

Port will probably get a fairly decent pick in that draft, and with the GWS and Gold Coasts picks reduced, then the super draft will be interesting.

Well they have agreed to be the away team in every game Richmond, Bulldogs and Demons play. They wouldn't do that for nothing. I'm sure Port would have preferred to play in Melbourne.

Why? They would have lost by 100 in Melbourne.

For a second last night when Port got back to within 14 points, I was sort of wondering if they had enough in them to pull of something crazy in that last qtr. But no Melbourne held there nerve enough to get the win.

But yes I agree with you that in melbourne they would have got creamed. And yes someone stated before I believe Port are the bottom side and playing like that, the gold coast have more talent than them without question. Port really need to the top picks to rebuild. Although it looks like they'll get pick four and with a bit of luck maybe young wingard will slip through, unlikey though. Still they have players like Boak, Hartlet, Banner, O'Shea, Pittard (when fit) and Gray that they need to build there next core team around. Cassisi is a good leader, Shultz is ok up forward, Lobbe is serviceable but not exciting in the ruck, but the backline is thin and the midfield needs some harder bodies. Still I guess they really only can get better from here, the next showdown I'd expect to see crows supporters with spoons.

If Crows fans don't turn up with spoons next showdown they are the Franchaise that everyone thinks they are. If anyone deserves to have thousands of wooden spoons in their face it's Port. Now do the right thing Blackbirds' fans and show that you are a Football Club.
