Port looking at Trent MacKenzie from Gold Coast as a DFA according to reports

How many DFA’s will they take?
I still believe they are getting Lindsay Thomas

...and looking at Mullett I’ve been told.

I reckon it's the same story with your D McKay but you probably don't agree.

Nice assumption mate. I've never rated McKay as a walk up best 22 player. I think his spot is always up for grabs

Played 22 games in a team that made the Grand Final. Not struggling as a club.

How many good ones?

With the loss of Trengove and Austin we're thin on tall defenders IMO, I would snap him up if he's on the market at the preseason draft for free.

Booney I’m not trolling with this question

Do you have any concerns if you pick up Thomas and MacKenzie that 4 of your 5 recruits have come from very low ranked teams that some of these teams didn’t want these players?

In a word, no.

Both Geelong and Brisbane had the chance to match the offers for Motlop and Rockliff respectively and both were courted, seriously courted, by other clubs so I reckon of the 5 (?) those two are not part of the question you have asked, so to say they "didn't want" them is incorrect, IMO, I'd say they wanted them but weren't prepared to want them more than Port did. I've got no concerns about either of these coming on board. I think they both make us better.

Melbourne finished the season less than 1% outside the 8 so I'm not sure if you consider them a low ranked side, having said that the whole Watts / Goodwin relationship seems to be an interesting one and given the commentary around Watts in the days since in regards to his attitude and application bother me a little. I've got reservations about this deal, I'll have to back Hinkley and the boys to get the best out of him.

Mackenzie I'd take as he'd be cheap and I think we need back up in that area as noted above.

Thomas, I'll be ******* livid if we take him.

I would take McKenzie in a heart beat - I think he's quality, just needs a quality football program and environment to thrive in.

Don't know how true this is.. but I heard last night that Collingwood wanted to trade Chris Mayne BACK to Fremantle in the trade period.. and that Fremantle were also keen for the move but the AFL squashed the motion and told them no it wasn't going to happen, they wouldn't allow it..

Yeah they tried the old 'salary dump' technique but AFL didn't like it

A good point, anyone from the Suns with a question mark needs to be given the benefit of the doubt short term as they're coming from a dead set rabble of a program.

He got overhyped due to his massive kick...almost became a novelty.
I think he'll be a much better player outside of GC.

I don’t think Port will be able to get them all. Some in Perth are saying that Liam Ryan is heading there also.

Fair reply

I didn’t include Motlop in the players teams didn’t want

Thomas, MacKenzie (if delisted), Watts and to a lesser extent Rockliff are all players that their clubs didn’t want.
Melbourne should have played finals with their list and underachieved especially how close the season was. Lower ranked because they did miss finals

Remember at least 3 of these players that are meant to be in your best 22 and MacKenzie best probably 25

Voss has done similar at Brisbane, wonder how much influence he is having on these decisions?

I don't want Thomas either!

Mackenzie - Just delisted, agreed GC didn't want him any longer.
Watts - As noted, Melbourne couldn't get him out he door quick enough, maybe they're finally getting their house in order.
Rockliff - I'd say it was him not wanting Brisbane more than Brisbane not wanting him. They're not in a position to lose a two time BnF, 1 x AA, former captain who averages 26 touches and 6 tackles a game.

Any truth to the rumour that Rockliff was a bad influence at Brisbane and was pretty much a massive jerk?

Brisbane have tried to move Rockliff for at least the past 2 seasons

Can be a very good player for Port. Perhaps being “top dog” at Brisbane didn’t suit him and needs a strong group around him
