Although not picking Ebert suprised me i am very very excited by the promise dangerfield has shonw. The crows need some pace and flair through the midfield and this kid has it to burn. I think the decision was made on a needs basis. Ebert didnt really fit the 'needs' of the crows at the time.

I expect them to look for a ruckman and a midfield inforcer with there first two picks this year. Seems as if they have the pace on the list now they have been lacking.

On the whole i think the crows have drafted the best they have in ages. Dangerfield is special, Jacky (although no Rioli) has lots of promise and my personal favourite is Andy Otten. C.Cornes eat your heart out . Jury is out on Cook, Armstrong and Kite but The texas ranger will be a star. 5 goals in the reserves on the weekend or Norwood wasnt it? Look out

Oh and just quietly.....Get on Rich for the #1 spot this year, not natanui. If melbourne finish bottom i can see them taking the ruckman but Rich is the player i would be trading my soul away to get a top two pick. If reports out of the west are true.....Voss like

Very early doors again, but I've been impressed with what I've seen of Kite in the SANFL trial thus far ... My initial expectation was that in a year of a draft the experts unanimously declared as shallow, he would be purely a punt type and would struggle to make it, but he has shown a bit, be interesting to follow his development.

I have read good things about him but heard he was poor Friday night, but then on BF I read he injured his knee in the warm up yet still played the game. Not happy with that as he probably did more harm than good and now he's out for 4 weeks or something.

Some people would have seen Dangerfield play in TAC Cup and whatever else he's participated in... he may have seen him display promise there?

Ebert debuted for a club which got smashed by a team which hadn't beaten them for 5 games in a row, but that suddenly makes him a champion. But I guess Dangerfield didn't come from Port did he.

No he didnt come from Port. That has nothing to do with it.Where did I call Ebert a champion btw?

What has Dangerfield done in his 'career' other than create debate about his decision to stay and finish his education,as opposed to commiting himself and giving it his all to achieve (one could assume) his goal of playing AFL football?

The fact the side Ebert plays for lost on the weekend,I would think, has little to do with the fact he debuted,or Dangerfield....drawing a long bow there.

Now I can understand that may seem odd to a Port supporter.....

I have seen this promise in video tapes of his games in the TAC cup last year and from both first hand looks at the crows training over preseason and reports i have been given.

Eagles won a flag two years ago yes.....point??? Joel Reynolds debuted for Essendon 2 years after they won a flag. Now he is non existant on an AFL list.

They are a good side still but not the side they were. I have them in my eight but just because he debuted in round 2 means one thing. Hes is AFL ready and the club has faith in him. The only reason Ebert vs Dangerfield is an issue is because he is an Ebert. The more Rucci writes about this the less i care. Should we start a debate over why Port picked Boak instead of Selwood??? Essentially the same debate isnt it.

Why have a dig at the kid for chosing yr 12 over football?? Who said he isnt giving it a full crack at the moment?? Hes on a path, let him walk it on his own. Im sure iin ten years time he will reflect upon his decisions in life and choose for himself wether they are good or bad. He is only young and lets face it, a good education is more important than an AFL career any day of the week. Says alot for the kid actually. Very wise move, i would have done the same thing regarding my stuides. Every AFL club new he was going to sit year 12 this year before the draft. The crows new and picked him anyway....ahead of ebert.... they see something special.

In regards to your otten comment. No he doesnt have the AFL accolades. He was drafted in November. Did you know that already??? Thought id just check. Pretty hard to notch up a premiership, some B&F's, brownlow votes, all australian selection and a 119 point spanking from the cats all in a few months.

Yes i said chad cornes eat your heart out as. As with dangerfield i have seen all of his game tapes from last year and seen all of his stats and seen him train with the crows. This kid has the capacity to be cornes/goodes like.

Big call early in his career but i have been very impressed with him. Am i allowed to be exicted about the crows draft prospects or is that against the rules??? Please let me know as i am new to these boards and i dont want to put your nose out of joint. Only an true idiot would try to suggest that he is as good as cornes now and try to compare there accolades but i was attempting to make a comparison with a current player , and yes got excited about it.

I only noticed him sporting a bandage after half-time, and thought his first half was pretty reasonable, but the second half he was in the same boat as his teammates (bar Zorsi) .. Rarely sighted.

Thats fine, and I know this is the premier breeding ground for future AFL stars, but playing well in the TAC Cup and taking the next step to AFL is not as simple as that.

Eagles won a flag two years ago yes.....point??? Joel Reynolds debuted for Essendon 2 years after they won a flag. Now he is non existant on an AFL list.
My point is,is Ebert went to Richmond and debuted in round 2,who would care. The fact the Eagles have been so dominant recently suggests 2 things.
1: They identify talent early, and well.
2: They have a strong side that would not be easy to break into, let alone as a 17 yr old.

They are a good side still but not the side they were. I have them in my eight but just because he debuted in round 2 means one thing. Hes is AFL ready and the club has faith in him. Essentially the same debate isnt it.
Similar, yet different.Boak and Selwood are both AFL ready.Perhaps Dangerfield is,but if Adelaide are willing to carry a 17 yr old on their list for a whole year, with the possibility of him not playing at all this year and AFL lists being stretched to the limit by injuries all the time (testing depth especially) then good luck to them.Start the Boak V Selwood debate if you wish,it would be a good one.

Why have a dig at the kid for chosing yr 12 over football?? Who said he isnt giving it a full crack at the moment?? Hes on a path, let him walk it on his own. Im sure iin ten years time he will reflect upon his decisions in life and choose for himself wether they are good or bad. The crows new and picked him anyway....ahead of ebert.... they see something special.
I didnt have a crack at him for finishing his education IMO a good choice also, but hey,we do have secondary schools in Adelaide where he could study. If he had no intention of leaving Vic for a non-Vic club, why nominate for the draft this year? Could he have not waited one more year if his study and stability so important?

In regards to your otten comment. No he doesnt have the AFL accolades. He was drafted in November. Did you know that already??? Thought id just check. Pretty hard to notch up a premiership, some B&F's, brownlow votes, all australian selection and a 119 point spanking from the cats all in a few months.

So,just because he could be Cornes/Goodes like does not give him anything at all.The '119 point spanking' had more to do with the PAFC,not just Chad.

Big call early in his career but i have been very impressed with him. Am i allowed to be exicted about the crows draft prospects or is that against the rules??? Yep,get excited about your draft prospects, but be prepared on these boards for people to challenge your thoughts and not agree with them at all times.Thats what is so good about this site, every is entitled to an opinion, and no one is right or wrong.

Cheers.

It is apparent Port fans think any team would be enhanced by picking players of Port Adelaide origin and therefore feel personally insulted and deliberately slighted when one of theirs is passed up for a player from elsewhere, no matter what the selection panel's assesssment of his potential is. On the other hand, they are not exactly happy if the Crows pick up someone like Symes, either.

Grandiosity of that type is typical of the species.

In 2009 we should find out whether the Crows were right or not- in the meantime the posturing and blathering is pointless. 8)

Ahhh,a mutually balanced and totally rational debate, which at this point in time is clearly the ideal time to do so (that is,stick our neck out too look like a rabbitt in a few years) and it gets spoiled by preconceived stereo type..
