A highlight for Essendon was how alot of the youngsters stood up & covered for the loss of McVeigh, McPhee, Watson ( midway 2nd qtr ), A very good sign for the future how quick these youngsters are developing.

Essendon midfielder Mark McVeigh will miss Friday night's AFL blockbuster with Collingwood after being suspended by the club for failing to attend a training session on Monday.

McVeigh was out late on Sunday night socialising and did not front for a compulsory training session the following morning.

The 28-year-old had been expected to return to the Bombers' side after missing last weekend's big win over Carlton due to a one-game suspension for striking Melbourne's Jared Rivers.

In announcing the one-match club ban on Tuesday, Essendon coach Matthew Knights labelled McVeigh's behaviour as "unacceptable and disappointing".

Knights refused to confirm whether McVeigh had been drinking alcohol on Sunday night.

Was chatting with a couple of mates yesterday and posed the question of which of the following 4 players (Hird, Fletcher, Lloyd, Lucas) have been the most important for Essendon.

The main consensus was:

1. Hird
2. Lloyd
3. Fletcher
4. Lucas

Wonder if Bombers fans agree with that ranking?

Throw a blanket over the second two, the first two wouldn't get any dispute I reckon. For me, Fletch at 4 and Lucas 3 - can't say why (because I don't know why), that's just the order that sounds right to me.

i luv the efc but yesterdays efforts against a woeful west coast side was completely unacceptable.in the first qtr wen sam lonergan needed to run backwards into play to take the mark about 20 mtrs out from goal and instead he completely pulled out of the contest, well for me that just set the tone for the day.i think the bombers are tired due to the high intensity running game they have tried to play most of the year.poor pady ryder needs a bloody rest, the poor bast##d at this rate will be burnt out by his 21st bday.thank god for fletcher and young hurley also.we need to not worry bout finals in 09 and chuck a few more kids in the deep end b4 the seasons out.scotty lucas you have had a very good career but for me has played his last game for the efc.i believe we hav a cupla players that should be used as traid bate ie-h.slattery,n.l.murray, maybe even a couple more.i dont think the likes of lonergan, skipworth will get us to were we need to go.in finishing i would really like to see james hird get on board next year and maybe sumthn like the situation at collingwood take place in the coming years.

Knighters game plan was always going to be scrutinised if they lost and praised if they won. IMO they have a lot of young blokes and give them some more time to adapt to the intensity required to play the way he wants them to and some time to gel a bit more they'll go alright. Lucas is gone and they need someone else to replace Lloyd too, if Hille didn't go down and Paddy was able to be a second string he'd be fine. Lovett Murray has awesome pace and as has been said many times around the traps, players with pace and capacity are where the future of the game is, not super polished skilled players (unfortunately).

Ultimately i'd say to just miss the finals isn't too bad a finish for the Bombers, although they should have won their last couple and be cemented in the 8, they would've just been makin up the numbers in September anyway...

definately agree on lloyd and lucas.i think also gettn hille bak next season which will free up ryder to hopefully play up forward along with getn gumbleton up forward after hopefully a good pre-season and then perhaps neagle can play as the 3rd target up forward which may in time cause a few headaches for other defences.on lovett-murray i think u may hav him and lovett mixed up.darcy daniher needs to come in to give the likes of pears, hurley a bit of back up.all in all agree also i never thought the bombers would have been a part of finals,so anything close is a step in the rite direction.

Essendon has done very well with the injuries they've had this year, its a little unfortunate to go into the game against West Coast with no Lloyd, Davey, Mcveigh, Winderlich to keep their finals chances alive.
I personally picked West Coast for that reason alone & i knew it wouldn't take long for the knockers to surface again once Essendon lost, i wish these slaggers would get over the past Sheedy era & be positive about the future under Matthew Knights instead of being so negative.
Success you Bomber supporters is still 3 years down the track & that will be without Lloyd & Lucas, these young lads are coming on in leaps & bounds & your expectations are over the top.

You can just picture the Cats fans cheering on Essendon while the Bluebaggers cheer on the Hawks.
