TELSTRA DOME OR TELSTRA DOOM injury curse.

Talk on the national game

Postby ORDoubleBlues » Sat Jun 17, 2006 11:47 am

I'd be interested to know if visiting coaches to the DOOM train any differently after a game there as far as player rehabilitation goes.
For an example I'd like to use, if you go back to 2003 only one team for the year won a game the week after playing at Subiaco Oval. The clubs cottoned onto this and changed their programs a bit after playing there and now nearly every team wins the following week after Subiaco. Was also a theory going around a couple of years ago that teams struggled the week after playing against the Swans, due to their in close and congested brand of football.
In any case, the dome seems an unpopular venue for players and coaches and playing on a surface that is only 1 metre above solid concrete can't be much good.
Is Ian Collins still the ground manager at the DOOM? If so his arrogance and pig headedness doesn't augur well for any improvements to be made to it in the near future.

That bigfooty site made for good reading on the DOOM.
I am not a participant there although you could swear
that i was looking at the posts.

MT79 you found some big names in your post complaining
about the DOOM.

I have now talked to 6 afl ex and current players of which 5
have said its the worst surface in the AFL.
One player hates the DOOM.
I cant name the guys unfortunately.

NATHAN BUCKLEY did his chronic hammy last year
at the MCG round 1 v WB form a source.

My 2 teams played at the DOOM [SK V AC]last night the results:

HARVEY hamstring
HUDGHTON right knee

I am not surprised 2 more bite the dust.

BURTON pulled out before the game with a hammy
He probably did it thinking about the DOOM.

There will no doubt be more leg injuries this weekend
at other grounds but the DOOM has its share already.

My saints are contracted to play there until 2007
PLEASE DO GO!

I am going to refuse to debate this with you on a week to week snap shot you need collective data

How in the hell can you relate HUDGHTON injury to the surface, it was a collision injury, it happened while executing a tackle on the Roo, no way related to the surface.....

Your shallow fact base is
1. Game Played a TD
2. It was a leg injury

This is getting a bit tiring, I challenge you for a greater fact base then your week to week assessment and shallow criteria

HARVEY hamstring

& both are over 30, have had long careets- the body is telling them something.

What's more with Buckley, he'd actuallly ruptured the tendon in his hamstring, so no matter how many times he rehabbed it (which he had done at least twice) it was never going to repair until the tendon was fixed.
Apparently it was a groundbreaking operation to some degree.

Can you believe that.

And then in October 2005

I am not ignoring it what I am saying is you cannot draw any conclusion from your level of fact base, Mitch Hann went down with a knee at the Gabba last night, Tredders at AAMI do I hear any chorus from you regarding these grounds,

soon as Ball went down on the weekend you automatically started singing your TD Chorus but we all know it was a collision injury, it happened in a tackle with the Roo...

no one has denied that it is a harder surface but I stop short in declaring it unsafe for football

I would imagine that the AFL is concerned with the total number of injuries, you only have to look at all clubs injury list, whether the TD is a significant factor in this only a proper study will reveal that, and one not based on your high level fact base which is, injured leg at TD......

We can also argue that the higher amount of injuries we are seeing is a direct result from the rule changes to speed up the game, but like your TD theory these are only assumptions unless we can prove or disprove them, to do this we require a comprehensive study

You guys make me laugh.

I now know why my cricket career did not blossom.
I should have worn footy boots !

Me thinks the players should actually give up on
footy boots at the DOOM and wear skates.

not ot mention the Saints don't help themselves by playing unfit players, Ball has been struggling with a groin all year, you can't blame the TD for that, why does your club continue to play him when he is clearly not fit.......

if not rested it is only a matter of time before his groin goes and if it goes at TD you will blame the surface but the club is fully responsible

it is comon knowledge that in the quest for a flag Thomas has put an enormous amount of pressure on players to come back not 100% and over rides medical opinion, thus so many re-occuring injuries

SD

Fantastic insight into the BALL dilema and well spotted.
Playing unfit players is either desperate or dumb.
Good clubs like OUR crows have the luxury of resting
players as they cover them easily, whereas the Saints
have not got the same depth.

Seems you better put Richmond into your dumb club
bracket COUGHLAN out for the season with a knee injury.
As in the Lenny Hayes debacle the player came back on the
ground.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You and Punky and others got stuck into THOMAS now please
be consistent and now get into WALLACE.

SD its amazing how many players are succombing to leg injuries
this year on most grounds.[especially the TELSTRA DUMP i mean DOOM]

Both Coughlan and Hadrill have suffered knee injuries, this is a real concern and as you can see it is an issue more wide spread then to the TD, the AFL needs to spend some money on trying to understand why we are seeing so many knee injuries this year

SD re knee injuries.

Is it the Interchange, players are fresher ,run harder
and generally the speed of the game has increased ?
Playing at maximunm tilt for say 100 minutes is easier
than the old days playing 120 minutes ?
Seems to be less upper body injuries as the congestion
is not as apparent as yesteryear when there was more
tackling.
Interesting to note in todays press that WB are investigating
the frequency of knee injuries in thier club.
If they ring me up i can offer my views but i need permission
from Tassie Punky and yourself SD !

Whether or not the Dome is directly responsible, the AFL still have to look at its surface. The players the most important asset of the game. And they need to be looked after. So for god sakes fix up that bloody doom. And yes it can be done. Have a look at some of the staduims around the world. And tell me the Dome is up to those standards.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards
