Crows v Power

Talk on the national game

Postby magpie in the 80's » Sun Aug 27, 2006 5:56 pm

could our turnovers be because teams are playing us like we were playing them. working hard around the stopages, harassing the player with the ball and running in numbers. how does a team freshen up when they have to play each week. only way i see is that they dont train so they can get some run in their legs on gameday but this wouldnt happen.

magpie in the 80's

I think you will find that from this week it is short sharpe light skill work, that's about it

as i said, I believe at the moment the concern is physically they have hit the wall, they a slow and fatige and skills have fallen away...

in the past month the crows have made so many errors that have leaked goals with little pressure from the opposition, Im confident the boys will freshen up, if so we will see come finals if the crows have been worked out.......

just because your predictable doesn't mean you have been worked out, Brisbane were predictable for three premiership years

the injury list is not that bad..... yes burton and hentchel will be missed, but kenny, massie and roo will both be available next week, while bassett is still a chance for next week, and Hart well it may be a blessing as he is really struggling at the moment... all sides have their injury concerns this time of year,

Yes dislocated but he will miss the rest of the year from what was said on Sports Tonight, ch.10
lets hope they are wrong [-o< , but best case senario, both Hentchel and Burton will only get up for the GF which is a risk itself

We are in a heap of trouble, not so much the fitness side of things but we can't get a settled side and it shows with our decision making and systems at the moment that just are not working like they were six weeks ago.

It is gonna be a big effort to turn it around from here, and it needs to start NOW!!!

Need a good win this week, to get our finals campaign off on a good footing, ATM we will be facing the best team in the comp (form wise) on our home deck in two weeks time...Freo

Boys jut have to remember form is temporary, class is permanent....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

1980 Tassie Medalist

Good Post, well said my friend.

The club definitely has a challenge in front of them, but the positives are we will finish top two and get a home final possibly two, this is a great position to be in, I would of been really concerned if we finished on top by three games and maybe over confident and the feeling of invincibility........

Freo, playing great footy, but they have been up for two months now and it will be interesting to see how they handle the expectation, additional focus and the local mania that will follow the players

Its an open race......

Mal

I will show concern if we are 24pts down with three minutes to go in the first final......

I have seen enough of all the top 8 sides this year to know at our best we are good enough, every club you can make a for and against argument, as 1980Tassie Medalist stated form is temporary, class is permanent, and their is enough class in this side to play well in the finals.......

It's just too easy to make easy observations, yes the crows have had an ordinary month, against eagles we got blown away, against Port, Dogs and Freo we played one 1/4 football in each of those games and lost by two goals or less....

Positives are Welsh, Perrie and Bock are all getting footy, hopefully Roo will come back fresh and I don't think we are that far away, it's not all doom and gloom, we will finish top 2, have a home final and could have all players available aprt from Trent, Birdman and Hart.......

Given eagles form today, sydney inability to beat top sides, Melbournes inability to travel, Freo's lack of finals experience and the fact they have been up for so long, St Kilda's and Bulldogs injury list, this comp is wide open and the crows are still in the picture in a big way....

4 weeks ago we were the shortest priced favorites in history, now people have jumped off, I'm stoked the club has this challenge as I would feel very nervous heading into week 1 finals so far in front of the field.......

Next week is critical for our preperation but two weeks time, thats when the season starts again

I just hope this week the 30 or so fit Crows just take a bit of time to reflect on why they have been so good this year and then think about why we lost today.

No way is Port a more skillful or fitter side than us, but today they beat us with heart, good old fashion appetite for the contest and a willingnes to get their hands dirty. We have to do that this week and for the following four weks if we want to win the ultimate.

Our great game is full of examples when success has been achieved when 20/21/22 blokes have stood shoulder to shoulder for 120 mins with a willingness to give for each other and the TEAM (1998 GF prime example).

Maybe Craig should quote some Shakespear from Henry V this week,

We few, We happy few, We band of brothers,
He who sheds his blood today will always be my brother
.

Straight sets anyone?

wheels have well and truely fallen off and any side in the 8 could beat them at home over the coming weeks...im tipping straight sets...

anyone read the interesting article in todays Herald Sun about winning streaks of the past premiers over the last 15 years? Taking that into account forget Adelaide and WCE and get on Freo and the Swans...interesting to see how it plays out as the finals series is now WIDE open

How many marks did the crows drop today, and why ?
And who was on Chad Cornes

S/DOG Green Tea is a better alternative to Valium !

To say they are not concerned is inaccurate, they are
lacking confidence, they drop marks in the forward line,
they are being exposed for leg speed, they are fading in the
2nd halfs, they have a few players still underdone, they are
injury stricken, they suffer from West Coastisms, they lost 75%
of thier finals in 2005, the senior players are stuggling for
endurance as the season has gone on, they have no 5th gear,
they have a coach whose finals records is ordinary, brett burton
may not play again in2006...............

Green tea will strngthen alerness and focus, Valium will make
a person carefree and slightly incoherent, I should know.......

That's all it really takes to win a game of footy. You have to want it more. Port wanted it more, and they got the win!

Mal,Chad was starting loose in Adelaides forward 50,for much of the last hlaf he was double teaming Perrie with Chaplin, but,as soon as the ball was in Port's hands he went forward ofcentre and had a ball.I think Perrie has much to answer for, just as Craig does.Perrie did nothing to stop cornes, obviously assuming Chaplin was his direct opponent.

Great game by Brett Ebert on Bassett/Mattner then gave Johncock the run around, but the delivery supplied did him no harm at all.

I note some one also metioned above that Van Berlo's game was a plus for the Crows....well,most of the game he was looking around for Pearce (who were on the wing on each other) and without a doubt Pearce had more of an influence on the game than Van Berlo.Another one for Craig to answer too.On that,I think Craig has many questions to ponder:

Ben Hart-never thought I would say this but he is playing like a novice, either because of injury or the fact time has taken its toll on him.Does he play finals?
Rutten- Faster opponents are getting onto him, opposition coaches are switching match ups to get him out sized and it is working.Still a very good player but needs to be smarter with Bassett/Hart and co in choosing their opponents?
Ben Hudson-Must come back in as Biglands is a liability and Clarke has no impact around the ground..
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.
