Fyfe cleared - Goldstein no chance!!!

You'd have to think the conspiracy theory around paying out on Fyfe winning already and the partnership with the AFL by certain betting agencies (Crownbet) may have some currency!

You could think that or you could think that it would've been absolutely ridiculous that a player who's sole intention was to get in low and get the ball, not slide in feet first.

Just before wkend's round of games but a pineapple on Danger at 12/1 on Sportsbet.

Fyfe could have an insurmountable lead at the half way mark, but Danger's last 4-6 weeks have been awesome (exc. Sat nites game). Fyfe has missed a few games later in the year and wouldn't think he would poll in the games back since injury.

Gee I thought Hannerbery was a bit steep...

Kennedy would be around the mark I reckon...

I reckon Danger will win it.

Goldy has been massive this year and might overhaul Fyfe's flying start.

As an exercise I decided to go back through and have a look at the past 10 years, and find the ruckman who has had the highest votes in each year. I havent included Roughead and Goodes, even though they could have been playing ruck in that year, because they arent really true ruckmen anyway.

Cox and Sandilands have arguably been more dominant in an individual season as what Goldstein has been this year, but their Brownlow votes dont show it.

No ruckman has finished higher than 6th in the brownlow in the past 10 years

2014 Mumford 8
2013 Luenberger 8
2012 Natanui 10
2011 Cox 18 (13th)
2010 Sandilands, 20 (6th)
2009 Sandilands 10
2008 Sandilands 10
2007 Brendan Lade 8
2006 Brendan Lade 15 (6th)
2005 Peter Everitt 13

I've watched him play every game this year and have taken particular notice of his form for a number of reasons.
I can say, hand on heart that he has been BOG at least 6 times. I think he also is a chance to poll in at least 5-6 other games.
Right now, I'd have him on 24, maybe 25 votes. I don't think that's enough to win it this year.

Cox and Sandi have had far better on-ballers around them to steal votes from them than Goldy has, North are a good all-round team with no standouts apart from Goldy.

Im not denying that he doesnt have the best on grounds - just that the umpires never seem to see it that way - particularly with giving say 1 vote. It is just my feeling that a ruckman that has a goodish game never gets 1 vote in the way that a gun midfielder gets those votes.

When they are clearly best on ground and they monster their opponents I think the umpires notice them, but when they just have a better than average game, a game that Dangerfield or Fyfe might get 1 vote for, I dont think Goldy will get it.

Goldstein has a degree of midfielder about him, unlike say Sandilands, and really shouldn't have any household names to contend with so there's a chance he'll be looked upon more favourably than most ruckmen. Plus he looks coordinated, not too many big blokes in that boat lol. Whilst it would go against the bets I have on, I'd be seriously stoked to see the big fella win it.
