its his word, but I agree his intent was to break the carltons player hold on his arm/shoulder. not contact with his jaw and knock him out.

I thought it was judged on the resulting injury, not the intent these days.

yeah true.
what was the injury to Lamb? concussion, miss one week?

How many weeks did Vickery get for hitting Cox in a ruck contest? 4 was is? Didn't even knock him out.

Concussions can be life changing.

I actually wasn't being sarcastic![/quote]
I dont get what you mean then. Lamb misses a minimum one game. They say they're going to protect the head, then someone who causes another mans brain to force itself into unconciousness to protect itself 2 weeks?

Makes no sense. And allowing character witnesses to have any bearing on the outcome of the suspension is ridiculous. You can't use on field precident, but if you know a Logie winner and the PM you get to have them put in a good word.

I couldn't care less who it is either. I'd feel the same if Jack Ziebell got such allowances that others don't.

Same as protected guys like Selwood and Hodge. It's not what you did, it's who you are, apparently.

This article was written in 14 and refers to what was said at the 2013 Draft. It was written in response to Vineys suspension for breaking Lynches jaw.

What happened?

At last year's national draft on the Gold Coast, AFL football operations boss Mark Evans addressed coaches and senior football officials on the topic of head clashes.

He said then that the AFL had to take very seriously ALL concussion incidents and head injuries. It was implied more than stated that incredible pressure was being applied by insurance companies. And that the threat of legal action down the track was already a major concern.

There are already dozens of legal cases being prepared by ex-players who will be seeking damages for head injuries incurred in their AFL careers. Watch this space.

Plus the game he slept through, so two games .. Think 3 was the right penalty for Houli.

And whilst I'm glad Shofield got off*, it flies in the face of the message the AFL has been trying to send.

If you naturally throw your arm around, head high, knock him out cold, you get suspended.

The tribunal is separate to the AFL, so if their lawyers don't like the ruling, they can appeal.

Seeing as they're concerned about lawsuits from players with head injuries, I would think they'd want to appear to be fighting for harsher penalties.

I must be the only person in the country that thought 2x matches was right.

To me i didn't think Houli looked at him and deliberately smacked him in the face - looked like he swung his arm around to obviously hit the player across the arm, it slid off the shoulder into the jaw.

Also they said it was an elbow but it looks more like fist/forearm to me.

Maybe if the Carlton player wasn't trying to rape him off the ball he wouldn't have swung back like that.. but if he collects him a couple inches lower then the player has a dead arm and nothing more is said.
