Gather Round 2025

Talk on the national game

Hawks like to kick thru and around teams, most teams will reference/zone defence between the arcs but Ken/Josh came in with a game plan to pair off and go man on man across the ground which completely threw the Hawks out. The behind the goal vision was fascinating. No doubt Mitchell was outcoached tonight.

Interesting 2nd half, the Hawks came roaring back.
BT was willing them on.
The umpires were on board. The Hawks just let Port get too far in front in the first half.

A please explain coming to Port and Ken for that last night. That's not how it was supposed to go.

Any thoughts on the regional venues for those that attended, I've heard mixed reviews about Lyndoch, not from elite minds such as safooty though.

I heard Norwood Oval was alright for atmosphere on Saturday but no place to hide from the sun, a few mates were right next to the coaches box in the first half, went out at the break and couldn't get back to their spots after that.

The neutral supporters at gather round make it an interesting day.
So many people around me clapping when either team scored was a bit different.
Lacked any real atmosphere coz of this.
But the Blues got their 1st win so was a great day at AO.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

It was West Coast v Carlton…. When you’re that starved on anything to clap for your own team it’s not surprising you’ll clap anything

I'm glad they spent all the preseason talking about how much they love each other, rather than focusing on trivial matters like an effective forward line.

Drinking cheap piss out of a warm plastic cup in 34 degrees needs to be reviewed.

Only improvement might be to spread the games to more venues not just one country, one suburban and AO. Logistically might be hard and cost will go up, but take crowd numbers out of it and play some of the lower ranked games at some SANFL grounds.

Not sure they will ever do that with the suburban SANFL grounds.

The reason the government paid so much for gather round is to send people out to our tourists' regions as a return on investment.

Sadly, they aren't sending out 100,000 Victorians to Elizabeth.

My guess would be that if there is an expansion on venues next in line would be down Fleurieu somewhere.

I'd say South Adelaide might be the furtherst they'd venture.

AFL still wants more people central, and the beauty of Gather Rd is the ability to attend multiple games without much fuss.. if games are starting to push out to the regions it dilutes that "atmosphere" around the CBD.

I went to Norwood Saturday though.. didn't rate it.

The CBD to Lyndoch is 69km/58 mins, while the CBD to McLaren Vale is 40km/41 mins, according to Google Maps right now. McLaren region is more than doable, the Southern Expressway gets you right to the doorstep. I think maybe a rotation of Barossa/Hills/Fleurieu as the regional ground each year would be a great way to showcase the city.

That was too far for the poor Geelong Cats

send them to Oodnadatta next Gather Round

Norwood won’t lose the Sunday game for as long as we have Gather round but I suspect they will maybe move the Saturday game elsewhere. Glenelg is probably the only other suburban ground I’d look at.
AO still needs to hold 5 games and I’d think that the Barossa is locked in as a permanent fixture for both Saturday and Sunday

Fair bit on social media about the poor facilities at Norwood. Women saying the bathrooms were deplorable and the toilets moved when they sat on them.

My lad was there working and was on the ground said the smell of alcohol was horrible and the lights not up to scratch. Parking was a major issue too
