That’s what gets up my goat with all types of tribunals, being on the footy field shouldn’t exempt you from common laws.

The AFL simply aren’t all in on protecting the head.

They are all in on protecting themselves from lawyers though.

Re : Sonsie's suspension, I still believe that finals eligibility plays a part. Richmond are 9th (hahaha) but will play finals. Sonsie will be back for finals if they keep progressing. Giving him '6' or '8' weeks would mean he misses out completely.

I'm definitely not justifying it, I find it odd that year upon year that blokes get rubbed out during the season face harsher penalties than those that get rubbed out just before finals - where the team is still eligible.

Would he have been handed 6 weeks if this happened in Rd 5 or 6? Definitely.

Exactly. Everyone who follows footy, regardless of team, is hoping the cowards who got Ziebell get caught and spend time in prison. Yet a similar thing happening on the footy field is just have a rest for 3 weeks.

100% bang

Surely we come far enough in society to accept the law being involved in cases like this

VFL are appealing the 3 week decision. I dont get how separated the leagues are with their tribunals... its stupid.

I haven't seen this incident but if it's as bad as people are saying, then the police should look at charging them à la Leigh Matthews.

Sonsie whacked the bloke on the chin.
It wasn't a haymaker or coward punch so people comparing it to Zeibels assault need to calm down.
Let's get back to reality.
Who knows what happened in the lead up to the hit?
Not condoning it at all, but all men know there's a line, you cross it you know there could be consequences.

However AFL downgrading it is farcical. 6 tops!!!
They've had a howler this week.
Gil can't get out quick enough.

Yep.

Didn't get the Brisbane Olympic job and has remained.

I'm sure it happens all the time. Someone resigns, that organisation appoints and pays for the replacement and the other person just stays on the payroll.

Rubbish. In public, I can't hip and shoulder someone and it be within the rules. It's a contact sport, so things need to be taken in context.

I wouldn't advise shouting STAND in someone's ear at a pedestrian crossing either.

Exactly its a sport called Aussie Rules, we arent talking about a hip and shoulder thats slightly too high, we are talking about belting someone / coward punching someone etc which has never been in the rules of Aussie Rules which is the exact context.

Where something is undeniably a non-footballing act i have no issue in the police being involved.
