Absolutely.
Reckon they must have thought about matching it for a whole 0.00001 seconds.

Essendon have lodged the paperwork work McKay, 6 years at $750k+ which will get North pick 3.
Also lodged paperwork for Goldy

Well, there you go.
I guess the key is that when you are an ordinary side you get the better compensation.
Until they come with a better method that’s all we have to by.

Wait a second, don't you have to take a first round pick every 3 years? Port would need to trade back in this year or next year I think.

Or did that rule go when Geelong were rorting everything with the help of Steve sHocking

You can apply to the AFL for an exemption.
At the moment the deal looks ok but Port wouldn’t want to go backwards next year.

If Steve hocking was rorting the system then 3rd man up would have returned.

Gresham nominates Essendon.
Don’t really rate him but surely he is an upgrade on some of the plonkers we have on our list

NORTH Melbourne list boss Brady Rawlings has reaffirmed the Kangaroos are "not playing funny buggers" over Ben McKay and will match Essendon's contract offer if the free agency compensation isn't high enough.

The Bombers lodged free agency paperwork for the key defender on Monday, with Rawlings expecting to hear over the next 24 hours whether the compensation will land at pick three.

"We'll see what that looks like and we'll have a decision to make," he told Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.

"If it's not pick three in the draft, we'll certainly match that offer.

"There's no question about that. We’re not playing funny buggers there."

Seems to be a common belief that the draft quality drops a fair bit after the first 5 picks this year. Dogs obviously have targeted a player and the later picks are handy for Croft who is a F/S rated highly. Suns get the picks needed for their academy players so a win for both possibly although it’s a steep price paid IMO
