Not sure Port have been really tested as yet and had a pretty soft early draw, had an excellent run with injuries also.

Not sure the turn around would've had a large influence, Port also had to travel to WA which is a big trip, so I call it even stevens.

have also played 3 of the top 7 teams, for 2 wins. not sure you really count that as a soft draw. they have played carlton and brisbane too, but I think you have to give credit where its due

Port had a 8 day break going into yesterdays game, first 5 games of the season against opponents that finished below them in 2013.

6 days, 7 days, 8 days what's the difference?! Geelong had the luxury of being an hours drive from home, where as the Power had to get on a plane and fly home probably on the Sunday.

Given the way clubs operate these days and the infrastructure in place i'm sure by the time the game started all players would've been cherry ripe.

I just dont see turn around time as a legit excuse any more. Hawks won and they had the same amount of turn around, while Richmond had a week and a half!

How's it different a side playing Monday then Sunday as opposed to playing say Sunday then Saturday or Saturday then Friday or even Sunday then Friday?

It's a cop out.

Yet against sides that prior to the season where tipped/expected to be around the mark.

Carlton
Adelaide
North
Brisbane (Ok they are snot)
West Coast

Dont think you can use last seasons results as your barometer for measuring their success this season after 6 rounds.

Also how they won. Weathered the crows storm then smashed them in the last. Only really the north game where they haven't looked top 4 material

Whats the difference in today's game between a 6/7/8 day break? Nothing. About as meaningful as claiming a 3 hour flight was the reason teams lost.

Professional footballers 6 weeks into the season, 1 or 2 days makes no difference at all.

Hawthorn have it easy then, all their games are against opponents who finished below them in 2013!!!

Hit the post 4 times in the second quarter against North and finished with one bloke on the ground who shouldn't have been out there due to injury. (Wingard) Lost by 4 points and the Kangas franked that form with wins over Sydney and Fremantle.

they were 5 goals up twice and lost though, Hawthorn would have put them away.

They are definitely shaping up like top 4 material though

North will be the only team that makes the 8 out of them, pump them up all you like, none of the others are any good...

And if 6 day breaks dont affect players, why do they talk about them all the time?

He just doesn't :

1 - Rate anyone they have played
2 - If he does rate them they must have had a shorter break than Port, giving Port the advantage.

Commentators need something to talk about!

As for the other sides, i'm not pumping any of them up personally, the media and "footy experts" are the ones that had them in the 8 prior to the season, 6 rounds in we have the privilege of seeing they aren't what they were talking up to be.

End of the day, Port have hardly put a foot wrong this year yet continually haters come up with reasons why they must've won.

Haters gonna hate i guess

To start with - I hate Port, more so when they win. In recent years they have had the wood over Adelaide which p!sses me off to no end but the silver lining was that they weren't a premiership threat. This year I am scared. Scared at how well they are playing.

A fortnight ago I said that Rounds 6-9 would give a good indication to where Port are at. Playing WCE, Gee, GWS and Freo could see them with a 1-3 record or they could be 4-0 and a real flag threat. Two games into these 4 important games and Port should be marked down as not just a top 4 contender but a contender for the flag. Yes, it's a long season but Hinkley has the boys humming and they play with the believe that they can win every game.

Scary times ahead for no-Port supporters.

Monfries cleared to return this week, will he be brought straight back in or brought through the reserves?

If he comes in, who misses out? Sam Gray or Aaron Young?
