More off-season drama for Fremantle Dockers with midfielder Harley Bennell’s car impounded

FREMANTLE have suffered yet another off-field misadventure with Harley Bennell’s car being impounded after he was stopped by police who discovered he was driving without a licence.
PerthNow understands police stopped Bennell on Tuesday this week for a routine traffic check and informed him his licence had been suspended from November 30 for loss of demerit points - triggering the impounding of his car.
Bennell, who is due to go to Germany this weekend for cutting edge treatment on his chronic calf muscle problems, has told the club he was not aware of the loss of his licence because he had changed address recently.
The 24-year-old, traded by Gold Coast to Fremantle at the end of the 2015 season after 81 games and a series of off-field issues, is yet to play a home and away game for the Dockers.
He played just one pre-season match in 2016, then one WAFL match with Peel before succumbing to an ongoing calf muscle problem.
The latest injury concern is said to have affected his other “good” calf muscle.
Bennell’s traffic breach is the latest in a series of summer off-field issues to confront Fremantle as the club tries to rebound from a disappointing 2016 season.
