Consent to being assualted is presumed in contact sports otherwise every bump would be an assault. If the nature of the contact is out of the bounds of what could be expected from the game then there is an assault.
It will be good if Staker does sue him and it will send a message that violence which is cowardly and unacceptable off the field is unacceptable on it too. The times have changed from the early days where punching people is condoned.

Fair enough. My silly cousin missed a Port Premiership in the 90's because he hit someone in the semi-final...he didnt get suspended but he broke his hand.
