And by the way, I am prepared to be shot down in flames here by the Hawthorn contingent, but I can't honestly see how there is anything wrong with that bump apart from the fact it was head contact. There was no raising of the arm, no elbow, no deviation from Lloyd. It really should have been a free kick and that's it, but this is 2009 AFL and not 1989 VFL.

The thing is that the Hawthorn players and their coach don't agree with you. They feel he deliberately sniped.
I think that's played a big part in whipping up their fans.
They clearly felt there was more intent there than you felt there was. Are the closer to the action and could tell or are they just reacting emotionally to an accident? Dunno ....

Well, let's see if you can get over your Hawthorn phobia for a moment and think about it, shall we? Bateman knocked Lloyd to the ground, no injury, player got up and played on. Lloyd put Sewell in hospital with serious facial injuries.

Clarkson certainly comes out of this a lesser man- any respect he may have had would surely be gone.
I present the "Battle of Britain" footage as Exhibit A, & his post game outburst as Exhibit B.

Lloyd's bump- has been whipped up hysterically into a king-hit behind play (of Matthews proportions...), when realistically, it's just that a good bump, or a football collision.

Hawthorn are certainly getting a reputation as living by the sword, but not being willing to die by it- the line in sand speech from Dermie?

Hawthorn players looked to take the entire Essendon side to task over the bump- akin to deporting someone for stealing a loaf of bread.
I had some admiration for Campbell Brown, but that is evaporating- looks like he got his just desserts on the day.

The Hawthorn FC from top to bottom are flat-track bullies, & graceless to-boot.

Ian Aitken was referred to in one of Melbourne's papers on Friday, saying that Clarkson hadn't apologised to him over the intervening 22 years despite being in a lift with him the day after the match in London ... hmmm, that would sound right by my expectations!
