Thing is Granger is remembered as a thug,Matthews is made out as tough but fair. It's like he's above criticism because he's from Hawthorn.

There were far bigger thugs than Matthews running around in the SANFL in that era. It was just the done thing at the time.
Maybe up to and including the 1970s, but by the mid 1980s? At any rate, I'm not aware of any SANFL players charged with assault for snotting someone during a game.

Hes above criticism because he is the best player ever and did it in the best comp in the land
