12 months.
THey should be able to wrap it all up in 5 days. Bloody ridiculous how drawn out this is. All about keeping eyeballs on the AFL.
On the same token I found it ridiculous when they were listing off the Panther premiership players that are leaving, how do they not wait til seasons end for negotiations, what happens if you're playing against your new club in the GF?
NRL is a completely different setup.
Players can sign for other clubs in advance and sometimes it’s one or two years in advance and both the clubs and players are mature enough to see out the contracts and put in 100%.
I know at Parramatta we have had players that before the season even starts they have signed somewhere else the following year but they still get picked every week and they still perform to the best of the ability right up until the contract ends.
In the Panthers case they have the best and biggest junior setup in the land to pull from and they have already picked up Talagi off us so will be in an awesome position again next year
Pretty sure you can negotiate from the November before your contract expires, so if you're up in 2025, you can negotiate with other clubs from next month.
The Panthers have lost 13 premiership players to other NRL teams over the last 4 years, 14 if you include Momorovski who's in the Super League now. As Jimbo said, the player development at Penrith is light years ahead of everyone else, we lost players like Katao at the Dolphins before they've barely played first grade.
Of the 3 we lose this year, Talagi will get first crack at Luai's spot, we have Lindsey Smith & Liam Henry to take JFH's front row possie, and one of the McLean boys on the wing will actually be an upgrade over Turuva, Plus, Papalii joins to add more back row depth which means we could run the marble statue Sorenson off the bench for maximum impact
