I struggle to see how Adelaide get the capital to deal with North.

Adelaide have 5, 23 and 81. 5 is gone for Rankine, perhaps something else on top. They'll get a future 3rd rounder for Frampton from Collingwood.

Effectively they'll have 23, 81 and something in the 60's next year. How they turn that into 2 x 1st + something for JHF would be a miracle, so to speak.

Not sure they have the means this year to do it without giving up a Rachele or Soligo type.

Agree with that, it would be difficult to organise unless Suns were ok with next years first round selection

I know it won’t happen but they can try I guess.

Port bounce up next year, a 2023 first round pick could be between 14-17, Adelaide second round pick is likely around 25. Not much difference

I agree with you and i dont think it would happen but if/once the Crows secure Rankine it has to be tempting to consider whether there is room or a need for a Rankine/Rachele forward line if a JHF who will be a genuine balling winning midfielder is available.

I dont think it would ever happen but the only way the Crows possibly enter the JHF discussion is at the expense of Rachele.

I agree, i reckon if i went with least likely to most likely i would go Dunkley least likely followed by Rioli, JHF with Ranking being the most likely.

Im surprised the Rankine trade has taken as long as it has given its the Crows only real movement. I guess GC were waiting on the Bowes trade.

Makes you wonder are GC plotting something for Dunkley given its looking hard for the Lions. Could we see some sort of three way deal Rankine to Adelaide, Dunkley to GC and something to WB.

This is what i dont get 100%....so as it stands now essentially Dunkley gets to choose where he goes and cant be made to sign a contract for say GC.

What happens in the open market then......can Dunkley still refuse to sign a contract if he is drafted to a club that's not of his choice.

Adelaide need JHF more than they need Rankine. Rachele is going to be every bit, or more, than Rankine is and they need midfield / forward grunt that JHF offers more than anything.

It's clear JHF wants to play for Port, as it is Rankine wants to play for Adelaide when, in a twist, it's the two clubs who actually need the other.

There would have to be $1.5m of cap space open up there, if you have a well run club then fitting players in isn't an issue, while you can hide players payments/incentives easily at lower levels its near on impossible to do it in the AFL and any executive involved in it is killing their career if caught

Mistakes do happen however....eg the $40k fine Geelong received in 2020 for getting the GST element of the salary cap wrong.

However you would think Geelong as premiers will be the most scrutinized club by the AFL so don't think they would be doing anything stupid.

And it seems Bowes has agreed to take his $1.6 over 4 years. If the player agrees to a change in contract then it's above board.

I expect he'd also be happy to know he's locked into the Geelong system for 4 years and at 24 he's about to hit his prime.

It shows how being a top side has some serious perks....no way he would take that to play at Essendon or the Hawks. $400k a year pay reduction??

It shows how seriously cooked the Suns list management must be. (or must have been).

$800k per year for the next 2 years for a guy that no one is predicting will make the starting line up where he ends up!

Clubs in pursuit of Geelong big man Esava Ratugolea have been made aware that the 24-year-old would like to get to Port Adelaide during this trade period.

Port sees him playing a role in defence and as a potential ruckman with more senior opportunities likely at Alberton Oval than at the defending premiers.
