I'm not a Rutten fan. He was a key player 5 years ago but the last couple of years I reckon he has struggled - too slow IMO for the pace of the game. I wouldnt be too worried about him - it might be a good thing in the long run if he wasnt there, let the young blokes develop on their own.

He has slowed up but his one on one ability against the big FWDs is still as good as any defender in the comp IMO. These days if there is no pressure on the kick, the leading FWD is unstoppable.

He just marshells the troops back there and Talia and Shaw will learn a stack with him out there. Also alows Shaw to develop a bit more on the 3rd tall

Fair enough, this would have to be his last year though, surely?

I asked a mate the other night, if Davis was still around would Rutten get a game? With the speed of the game and the modern day forward being as mobile as they are I'm not sure he would.

I still havent got a sensible answer to a sensible question...

On what basis do most people on this thread think Adelaide will make the top eight?
Their NAB Cup GF win??

You guys call it carp because you cant give one....

I think they will make the 8 simply because of a change in coach, new attitude and a different gameplay. Remember Neil Craig said this group was the best/most talented group he had worked with but he couldnt get the job done because he lost the players. The group has not changed but the coach has. Sanderson will get more out of Walker and Tippet IMO because he will not load them up with too many instructions...just get the ball and kick goals. A fit a firing Porplyiza is something we really lacked last year. His ability to find the ball in the forward line is amazing and gives another top option up forward. Another pre season into Sloane and Dangerfield will result in their best season in their careers to date as there bodies are bigger and more conditioned for the AFL week in week out.

He is still in our best 22 for sure, he always takes the FWd closest to goal and very rarely you say Truck had his colours lowered. This is his make or break year definately to find out if the speed has gone past him but ATM i dont think it has.

Talia needs another 5kgs on him to be able to compete with the Browns, Clokes, Dawes etc

For mine it's a 3 horse race between Geelong, Collingwood and Hawthorn.
Then a fair bit off them Carlton, Freo, Sydney and Westcoast.
Making up the 8 from StKilda or Adelaide.
Bottom 3 in order Gold Coast, Brisbane and GWS for the spoon.
Port to improve and finish 10th-12th.
Another season of shite rules and decisions.
SANFL crowds to increase due to the above.

Hawthorn
Fremantle
Collingwood
West Coast
Richmond
Geelong
Adelaide
Carlton

Sydney
Essendon
Saints
Bulldogs
Kangaroos
Melbourne
Port
Gold Coast
Brisbane

Going out on a limb here but I reckon this year is the year we will see a shake up in the comp, with regular finalists Saints & Bulldogs going bye bye, Freo & Richmond the bolters, and improvement from Adelaide.

I've noticed a fair few posters picking freo to be possible contenders.

Just a question- Have i missed something? what has changed down at freo over the off season to take them from the bottom half to possible top 4 contention. Surely the introduction of Ross Lyon and Zac Dawson with a handful of youngsters could constitute to that big a rise...

They had a terrible run with injuries last year, they have got the squad to challenge if they have better luck in that area in 2012 IMO.
