has it actually been confirmed it was McCarthy? the power page is filled with people saying it is, I have a mate who is in sydney for work how msg me saying he had died. If it hasn't been confirmed because the family hasn't been informed then shame on the media who is telling people it is him.

Unfortunately the way it is mate, with social media these days it takes no time for things to get out.... rightly or wrongly its something that cant be stopped.

When the Rowe family was murdered in Kapunda, the son put on facebook that he couldnt contact his parents or sister and then he noticed a friends facebook status saying cops were on the street and a crime scene was a set up..... 2 and 2 togther :(

the disturbing thing is that this time yesterday he was swanning around Vegas having a good time and loving life. One pissant little mistake or slip up later he is deceased. We are all vulnerable and so fragile in the big picture.

Was one of the few PAFC players that I rated, but even that seems silly now.

RIP John McCarthy, thoughts with your family and teammates at PAFC. :(

Yes, correct. I started the thread titled 'AFL player dies in Las Vegas' then changed it to 'Port Power player dies in Las Vegas' but noticed a mod had changed it to read an individuals name...

I re-edited it back to say Port Power, shortly after it was changed again, so I edited it back to what it is now and added in my original post that I didn't think they be named until it was officially announced...

One would assume with all the coverage, that if it wasn't John, then the club would have made a statement as such.

Most of his family have been notified - they need to reach an immediate family member in the Northern Hemisphere before they release his name.

It sounds silly but I was kinda hoping it wasn't someone I knew of that well.

I remember him from his Collingwood days quite clearly and when Port threw him an AFL lifeline this year in the few Port games I watched a bit of I always wanted to see him do well but his kicking often seemed to let him down a bit and I was hoping Port didn't delist him and gave him another go next year.

Very, very sad news.
