The AFL Womens facebook page has received 7,000+ new likes this week. With the season about to kick off, the interest is building.

You don't think it'll be a success because there's no interest in it, but you also don't want "the constant ramming down your throat by the media"....otherwise known as advertising.

How dare they try to build up a brand new concept.

Several seasons of mixed netball at Marelston through my late teens was an excellent way to "meet" people. :D

I enjoyed playing mixed there too. Was always funny when the blokes took it too seriously.

I played in a team of footy players and our Mrs's.

The other teams were the same.

Got quite rough.

I think it will be like the WNBA, shit product but will never die because of the financial support. Although it is no where near the NBA level it is still regarded the highest level so gives females something to aspire to. I've seen a few games of womens football and probably wont watch it unless i know someone playing

Spoke to a guy who is a port supporter. Said he has to change allegiances at least for the women's team as his two daughters want to go, so he is going Saturday.

Some of you need to realise that you aren't the target audience. And that's ok. Just do what you do in other things you aren't interested in and tune it out. No need to continually slag it off.

I personally can't see myself taking more than a passing interest either.

If you're bored and need something to do...... I hear there is a 'Sheila's' game of footy on that you could watch. ;)

Yep, played a season of mixed netball at Parafield Gardens and one bloke got sent off for being a dickhead 3 times. Deserved every ejection. Was really good for general fitness, and a lot of fun. I can now see how netballers bugger up their knees so much.

Princes Park is actually pretty packed. Looks like more people than the Suns get.

Enjoying it. Standard not to bad. But the attack on the ball is incredible.

I'm looking forward to the women's footy, the standard might not be amazing but it'll still be decent. Im not expecting every game to be a lockout though.

Dangerfield lining himself up for a career in commentating once he's finished with playing.

Im liking it. But there is a massive difference in the talent from the top girls to the bottom. Maybe there is a couple too many teams to start off with, but it will only get better.

How good is number 3 Vescio for Carlton no one can touch her up forward.

They just said 24,500 people with another 1k outside that couldn't get in!

Of course it's the first one but that's still pretty incredible.

Mike Fitzpatrick said they were expecting 12k, but they are now estimating 18k

Commentators were the ones they said 24k

Tuned in for the third quarter out of curiosity. The standard is beneath that of a SANFL reserves match. Does not bode well for the local womens' league. I shall continue to watch in the vague hope that one of the players gets dacked in a tackle.
