1985, IIRC, came from 5-6 goals down & kicked 8 in the last to run all over them. John Holt had a good game.
Sadly Footscray were too good for us in the first semi.

1985.... somehow the SANFL GF result eludes me!

I can help you with the SANFL and VFL GF results if you like?

No thanks. I do however recall the 1987 & 1991 GF results of both comps.

Certainly a creepy looking character.

His 7th goal was his best of the day.

Sadly won't get to see that. Left the room to get something and daughter has changed channels on me.

Ugh. They must be desperate.

I'd rather hear commentary from Helen Keller, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Steve Urkel, or the teacher who repeatedly says "Bueller" in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", all of whom would've been ahead of Brayshaw on Channel Seven's list.

Looking at few of these older games I've seen numerous acts that would receive 6,8 even 10 weeks at the tribunal in this day and age. Yes, its great the game is cleaner of the thug acts but some hip and shoulders these days your done at the tribunal.

I absolute love the game don't get me wrong but has the game improved? speed of the game certainly has, But would you ever see Lockett, Dunstall or Ablett standing up on the centre line in a full oval press? No f##king way you would which led to some great 1 on 1 contests which almost seem a thing of the past, its all goals over the top now IE Josh Jenkins

Would you see Carey come off the ground straight after kicking a goal? No you wouldn't as he'd probably kick 2 more in the next 5 minutes.

Goal kicking looks far far worse for mine. I assume this is because some wiz bang kid out of Uni that's never played the game tells them that sports science says 'you cant keep kicking the ball' Please! give me a spell  Wasim Akram is widely regarded as the best swing bowler to play the game (Albeit another sport but the point remains), Wasim's secret to success was to bowl, bowl and bowl as much as he could as often as he could sometimes up to 3-4 hours a day I didn't see him breaking down every 5 mins.

Good points carey. The game is now played by professional athletes, with less one on one contests around the ground (making it faster), and IMHO that doesn't equate to a better spectacle.

For every wasim Akram there’s a Dennis lillee or James Pattinson.

Your comments about the big forwards are spot on, but saying science doesn’t have a role to play just isn’t correct. The level these guys train and play at is astonishing. Compared to even 15 years ago.

The flip side of that increased fitness is that they can get up and back in zonal defences as you have pointed out.

Akram is nothing at all like Pattinson or Lillee.

I'm with carey on this, all your sports science doesn't stack up against natural ability, Ablett could turn a 23 point deficit into a lead within 4 minutes off his own boot, I wouldn't stuff with that no matter what some Poindexter was trying tell me.

My point is akram had longevity but there are plenty of others that have had injury issues - lillee wouldn’t have played again were it not for physiotherapy and a remodelled bowling action - which would have been helped by sports science.

Why do you think its sports science vs natural ability? Those two things go hand in hand. You reckon Lockett would have been a better player if he was actually fit?

(Game style is a different beast entirely. That’s coaching not sports science)
