Do each Port player and coach get a daily BJ with this deal also? Fair dinkum...

If Melb/Coll are paying most of Grundy's pay packet, then Port need to offer something serious. Only way you could trade a 3rd would be to take on his salary.

Well he's got experience being the head coach at port... Interesting to see how Ken goes if Carr leaves.

No.

The agreement for payment is only between Collingwood and Melbourne. If Melbourne look to move him on Collingwood are not required to pay him anything more. So Melbourne now have the 4 remaining years and $900k per year to pay Grundy. If Port can get Melbourne to agree to paying $350-400k per year and Port pay $650-700k per year I would still be no. He turns 30 early 2024 and he'd be nearly 34 at the end of the deal.

If we were to look at him we'd have to let Lycett and Hayes go, we'd then be going with Grundy, Finlayson/Dixon and Visentini as the only back up ( I think Teakle will be delisted ) unless we keep Teakle. Visentini then see's no spot for him for 3-4 years.

It's a no from me.

I get all that for a side outside the 8 who won't contend in the next 2-3 years, but for Port's window I think you go for him.

Absolutely take that into account, if his deal was 2 years, maybe 3 I'd be in but given it's 4 and the money would be at the upper end of any of our player deals along with finding some draft / trade capital, massive investment when you have to ask is he still capable of being AA or leading a side to a GF?

Lots of risk involved, fair bit of reward if it pays off. It's a no from me with all things considered.

Having typed all that, I wouldn't be surprised if we are right up to our necks in a deal for him.

Yep fair analysis, when I posted the question I wasn't aware the Collingwood part of the deal didn't carry over, which as you explained means you pay more $$$ for him.

If we got him for > $500k then I'd be a yes.

We need money in our cap for the up coming deals :

Name / Final year of deal

Farrell 2023
Duursma, Drew, Marshall, Lord, Jones, Finlayson, Rozee, Aliir 2024
Butters, Bergman, Powell-Pepper 2025

All of whom are long term keepers.
