Agreed, he looked like a bloke comfortable at the level, 7 games in 4 years though means he's a long way back in terms of midfield fitness at AFL level, a sneaky feeling if he stays fit the SANFL will be a doddle for him.

Is Ebert too slow to play on a wing?
Is there room for Wingard to still run through the midfield this year as well?
Will they have to split SPP and Wines so they're not in there together?

Re Wingard I’d much prefer he has 15-16 touches inside 50 than 32 in the middle, as IMO we lack scoring ability and if Wingard has 15-16 inside 50 touches a week he’ll kick 55-60 for the year far more important to Port Adelaide than in the middle.

I wouldn't have thought it "medium impact". ( There is low, medium, high and severe ).


PORT Adelaide star Robbie Gray is set to miss the Power's opening round clash against Fremantle at Adelaide Oval after being slapped with a one-match suspension for rough conduct.

Gray was charged by match review officer Michael Christian for his high bump on West Coast's Jeremy McGovern, with the hit graded as careless conduct with medium impact to the head.

The Power can challenge the suspension at the Tribunal on Tuesday night and risk a $10,000 fine, rather than an extra week on the sidelines under the new judicial system introduced for 2018.

arguments about if he would have if it were for 4 pts or was official concussion protocol. Medical report might get him off if they appeal.

Didn't fail any concussion tests and wanted to come back on, JLT 1, key back man, wasn't risked and fair enough.

Had to laugh, stumbled across a thread on FB last night saying "Look at the mark on (McGoverns) face! Gray should get at least 4!". It was on the opposite side to where Gray got him.

everyone is going to appeal this season at that rate.

So who at Port is going to play the role of small annoying pressure forward that lays six tackles a game and puts the percieved pressure on the opposition exits? You cant have all goal kickers in the front half or has Hinkley not been watching AFL for the last 6 years?

Same blokes that did it last year. Can't find the pressure acts stats, but we were #2 for one percenters so not an issue for me. Forward half pressure was fine. Again, it was our delivery to the forward line and disposal in general that let us down and has let us down for as long as i can remember. Was the same issue when Chocco was coach

Although, interesting to note Richmond had the worst disposal efficiency in 2017. Port 2nd, Sydney 3rd. Crows 6th. Then GWS who lost a prelim, were 2nd best.

It did last year and we didn't really have any one play that role other than Sam Gray who was around the 3 tackle per game mark. ( Dixon was also 3 tackles per game. Wouldn't be many 200cm / 100kg that do that ).

We had more I50's than any side last year ( in the minor round ) in part because it came out so often and our press worked so well saw us gaining repeat entries. Our defense was the second best in the league, those numbers are the reason we went after the 3 main blokes we did, we need to make more of the ball when it goes I50.

We can get it forward and keep it there when our back 6 get to press up, we just need to turn more of the I50's into goals and not just repeat I50's.

When the ball is I50 our mids push up, but not too far, they hold between the F50 line and the middle, this still allows some space I50 if ( and as it was last year ) when we go back in for repeat entries. The defenders are between the middle and the D50, that's why none of them really got involved with too many I50's.

It's the exact reason we saw Dixon or Gray or Wingard 1 on 2 or even 1 on 3. Balls goes in, fumble about, ball comes out, midfield are holding outside 50, ball goes back in there's 4 Port forwards and 381 defenders, ball comes back out repeat.

We need to make sure that first entry is as rewarding as it can be.
