I wonder if Essendon have shown any interest to get him back and slot him in next to Daniher? Does being great mates with Hurley hold any currency if Hurley is to stay with the Bombers?

Definately interested but think his price has us concerned aswell as the fact that I think he would struggle in our forward line.
We have 5-6 players we are into and JJ isn't the number 1 priority

And why is that?
Club has taken great strides to improve off field and the whole structure has changed.
Yes it may take a couple of years near the bottom to improve our list but also plenty of positives.
Very financially secure club with a huge ammount of cap space for next year, one of the best training facilities in the comp, guaranteed 16-17 games in Melbourne with marquee blockbuster games.
With some good drafting and trading we could see some real improvement

Depends if they're playing for Adelaide. They've had a few who have voluntarily pissed off interstate as soon as they got the chance.

It is a chance. Remember the full squad or most of it will be back next season as well as a number of kids who have had a heap of game time this season. As Jim said you will play 16 - 17 games in melbourne as well as a few blockbusters. If the price is right I can see it been an issue.

McDermott thinks we can let Jenkins go because we have Mitch McGovern waiting in the wings.
That's all well and good but where do we sit in a couple of years time when say the West Coast Eagles offer McGovern a big money deal? Eventually we have to pay the money and get the prime years out of a Jenkins that we didn't get out of Tippett, Gunston or Davis

mcgovern is a different type of player too. More or a third marking tall - certainly not a 200cm forward that ran go into the ruck

Personally think it's crazy to throw cash and/or anything over 2-3 years at an absolute max at a 28 year old tall forward who is a good/solid player but not a star. 90% of tall forwards fall off a cliff at the age of 29-30 in their performance and he's not built like a Richardson or Reiwoldt who re-modelled their games on the wing. It's a big risk to sign him for 4 or cop a cucumber sideways up the rear end with forking out cash.

If he leaves to chase cash then good luck to him, don't blame him if he does. Don't un do some of the top work we have done in addressing cultural issues within the club in the last 2 years in the process.

Yep, Adelaide know his role and would see many of his goals out the back are through the structure up the field and the work of Lynch, Walker, Betts and McGovern, Jenkins, this year, has just found his role is to be the bloke out the back getting the easy ones.

I think he's kicked 18 of his goals from the goal square.

One of the only times Kingy has talked any kind of sense was when he ran a segment with all his stats and graphics, saying Jenkins awesome form was a product of Adelaide's system.

In saying that. Not too many bigs can get open running out the back like he can.

So even if it's mostly system, it'll be hard to find another kpp that can run like that to replace him.

Please don't bring David King up in conversation. It's too early in the week to get frustrated.

It's a two way street - our system is designed for the players we have at our disposal too. His (and betts) ability to outrun his defender is the reason our system works. If he left we would likely have to change

Remember though JJ was a late starter to footy so he's more like a 25/26 year old body wise.

He's 28 either way, it's not the punishment you've copped, it's father time slowing you down that is the reality of it.
