Could draft two or three players for the price of one.

Yeah thanks for the response to my question guys. Appreciate it.

The answer is yes. Brisbane, with their academy selections, might entertain the idea to potentially have 4 selections inside the top 20.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

That's how I would do it. Draft four and have four chances to land at least one gun, instead of betting everything on one kid.

Nick Reiwoldt situation could end up similar to Brent Harvey...no contract offered at this stage and apparently Nick is asking for a decision on his future now.

St Kilda won't mess it up that much, will they?

Move him on I say.
He's been an absolute champion for them but he still probably commands the highest wage there and is showing signs of wear and tear more this year.

Free up some salary cap and move forward.

I tend to agree. He was performing quite well earlier in the year but watching him against Essendon (no orphan I know) but he could hardly run

If they had someone knocking down the door for his spot ( McCartin ) then wish him well in the future, right now they don't have anyone pushing him out. I'd give him one year, minimal coin and tell him he'll be moved aside mid year if they've got a kid to play.

I don't think they've got a top 4 list at the moment, they need more midfield grunt and a key at either end and Longer hasn't kept his form from last year. They've got no reason to move on Reiwoldt. Right now, in 2018, I think they'd be worse off without him.

He won't be playing for minimum coin next year that's the problem.
Surely he wouldn't accept that?
$700k down to $300k?

With the TPP increase they could fling him $350-400k easily, who there at St Kilda would be on major coin? Nobody I can think of.

The bigger issues would be keeping some of the younger players they consider to have bright futures, happy enough (if they're out of contract) - Ross, Billings etc.

I think you're right though, you'd imagine they could find up to $400k easily enough for him.

Still, would you half your salary and keep working where you are?

Going to be interesting that's for sure to see how this plays out.

Not relevant in the slightest. Someone in the AFL world would rarely earn the same amount two years running with contract payments front / back ended.

If it's still more than I could get elsewhere, or was enough to make ends meet without need to relocate, then yep for sure.

Whats the ruling these days on testimonials? Once a player is not on an AFL list can they have fundraisers without any funds raised being held against the cap?

Yeah if Nick wants to go on it needs to be at a pay cut.
Much like if Gaz going to Cats it would be a significant pay cut
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

Once his contract expires and he is officially off the list I believe then he can go around and do whatever and it wont count towards the cap.

How much can players earn these days through 3rd party arrangements signed off by the AFL?
