Absolutely stupid media statement from Essendon. Wasted their clubs cash by doing their own investigstion. Your investigation means stuff all!

If these injections were not taken for a reason to get an edge then why are they been taken for? It's hard not to think that Essendon knew what they were doing all along and usedthe current AFL system to defend them selves....

how is the current AFL system defending them? You no under the AFL system WADA can appeal any sentence and take it completely out of the AFL hand. Basically if WADA don't like the sentences handed down to Essendon they will take them to court and get what they want.

I may be wrong Kickinit but I am led to believe WADA cant do stuff all.
I was told the AFL can tell WADA to f**k off if they dont like the verdict because the AFL is not a member or sport that comes under their banner.

Just what part of “banned substance” do Essendon not understand? It doesn’t matter if it was performance enhancing or not if it banned its banned. You take the drug you take the ban that goes with it.

The ASADA website is not hard to use. I have been on antibiotics and in about 3 minutes I found out that if I was an AFL footballer I can use these antibiotics so surely someone at Essendon or a player could have done that with the non-performance enhancing banned substance they were given.

I did believe the same but apparently WADA do have a right to appeal a decision, they also have the right to appeal a decision on behalf of a player if they think the code hasn't been applied right. The appeal also get taken to the court of arbitration for sport (CAS), which means it will be out of the AFL hands.

(e) Persons Entitled to Appeal
The parties having the right to appeal to the Appeals Board shall be as provided in the NAD Scheme but, at a minimum, shall include the following parties:
(i) the Player or other Person who is the subject of the decision being appealed;
(ii) the other party to the case in which the decision was rendered;
(iii) AFL;
(iv) ASADA; and
(v) WADA.
ASADA and WADA shall also have the right to appeal to CAS with respect to the decision of the Appeals Board. Any party filing an appeal shall be entitled to assistance from CAS to obtain all relevant information from the Anti-Doping Organisation whose decision is being appealed and the information shall be provided if CAS so directs.

Thats all well and good kickinit but how can WADA impose anything if Andy D thumbs his nose at them?
The AFL is not funded by WADA and WADA cant stop the league from operating.
There are plenty of other sports out there that are not controlled by WADA.
I think ultimately it will be ASADA that punish us and I feel we may end up copping a decent whack.
Put it this way im far less optimistic than I was a week or so ago

The AFL follows WADA code. ASADA are only a controlling body of the code. Basically ANDY D can't do nothing if WADA appeal the case. It's in the AFL aws that they have a right to appeal.

A part of Essendons defence is that the AFL knew all about it and approved it. Now the feds have researched it and are taking their own action which ultimately will blow away any AFL rules. The AFL are the ones who should be shitting bricks because they are leaving themselves wide open for legal action from all affected. Hints why in my opinion the AFL are doing stuff all after Watson last week as any words or statements may be used against them when they are released.....

The afl cant approve any substance for use only asada can. Essendon is trying to claim dank had the approval from wada. Wada said it wasn't a s2 banned substance but he needed to check with asada if it was a s0 banned substance

Your knowledge is better than mire on this stuff kickinit but I recall seeing an article where it states s0 is banned unless it is made and prescribed by a compounding pharmacist. Could this be a loophole the club is trying to use?

interesting article - seems different rules for different people.

Please note that think Jobe is a fantastic footballer, leader and person from what I see of him via the media. The WCE supporters were a out of line IMO.

However, should he and others (outside of Essendon also) be found guilty, rightly or wrong should be banned as well.

Essendon are going to be busted for allowing their players to be injected with a banned substance.
It has not been approved for use on humans! There has to be a line somewhere with drugs being allowed for human use. testing protocols, clinical studies etc. and they must be strictly adhered to.
Otherwise in a couple of years the players could be infertile, have another eye growing or some other wierd side affect.
I'm sure some remember the morning sickness pill called thalidamyde...(spellcheck?) and what damage that has done.

It shouldnt be about whether its performance enhancing or not in this case. If i was the parent of one of their players i'd be fuming, regardless of what Tim Watson says.

a government health authority has to approve it for human use. This is why AOD-9604 is classified as not fit for human use, because it hasn't been approved. I think the club is relying on dank's info that he told them, which basically was that it wasn't banned under the s2 list but he need to check with ASADA to see if it was banned under the s0 list, which i'm guessing he didn't.

Any pharmacological substance which is not addressed by any of the subsequent sections of the List and with no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use (e.g drugs under pre-clinical or clinical development or discontinued, designer drugs, substances approved only for veterinary use) is prohibited.

Caro had her rant on Footy Classified tonight
She Believes Hird will cop a 3-6 month suspension
Essendon will lose all points for 2013
Will also lose draft picks
A number of staff including Bomber to be moved on
She is usually close to the mark thanks to her moles on the AFL board

She made it sound that it was Hird who was the leader of this all and Dank provided the service. Reckon some players will be banned too. This'll set essendon back years

If that happens we wont play finals for 10 years.
Hoping its just her opinion and not fact after the conflicting story I heard Saturday.
