Brady Rawlings, North list manager, made it clear JHF wasn't happy there and they knew they'd not get much out of him next year if they made him stay. My mail was he'd told them he wasn't coming back, trade or not.

It's also reflective of the modern world with clubs acting based on the players welfare. If he wants out for the go home factor then let him go, get the best you can and move on.

One club who hasn't looked like they did this is West Coast, the way they say "We stood by Rioli" when he was having trouble, it's not like they have a choice, it's their duty of care to ensure he's looked after and without doubt their duty is far and above that of any "normal" employer.

I've said this for years and will keep saying it. Clubs need to recruit the best player in their own area. Recruiting kids from interstate is and will remain a large risk. It could pay off but it also could backfire.

GWS look like taking a tall kid from Victoria this year which obviously comes with huge risks but they aren't as fortunate as other clubs, as their local talent pool is shallow.

I do wonder how long it will be before kids can nominate where they go, or perhaps which states they won't go?

They do that now, Bailey Smith, Archie Perkins both made it clear publicly that they would not leave Victoria and got what they wanted.

Did the AFL say they will open Round 1 with the previous years Grand Finalists from now on, so will be Geelong vs Sydney?

 Hard taskmaster Booney
Not too many North fans upset tonight.
lol there has been tears everywhere. The fact the majority of the responses have been fans wanting Rawlings head & for players to line JHF up next year really sums up where North fans priorities lie. Enjoy the next 5 years at the bottom.
Quality posting, champ. You seem more preoccupied with North
Back to bigfooty you go.
Obviously haven't read social media, watched TV or anything. Former players spitting it & lots of posts been deleted everywhere. Only have to go back through the North thread and have a laugh. The commentary Aus wide on the JHF situation over the last 2 weeks has been pathetic, it has been a really enjoyable last 12 hours or so watching everyone back track or crawl back into their holes. Anyway, enjoy another year at the bottom champ. Can anyone tell me when Butters or Bergman or Duursma are getting involved in the trade???

There is enough there amongst all the stories to suggest JHF may have also been as much of the problem as the Kangas are a bit of a rabble. You also didn't see a wealth of Kangas players lining up in the media making comments like they really hoped he stayed etc. Unlike at the GC where their leadership group came out publicly pleading Rankine to stay. Throw in the Kangas have let him go imo on the cheap side suggests they are somewhat glad to see the back of him.

All trades have an element of risk but geez Port are either going to look like heroes or flops. Best case JHF becomes the player everyone thinks he will be and Rioli settles by being back in SA and gets back to his best WC form. Worst case Rioli flops and just gets in more strife and JHF was a man child who peaked at 17 years old.

It isn't as big of a risk as what it seems for me. The picks that Port dealt equate to Pick 1 & Pick 37 at the moment for JHF & Rioli. You are walking away very satisfied with that deal every day of the week. Our list is young enough as it is, we have brought in a 2nd yr player which only makes us younger.

100% mate.

As for your bottom line, it should hold some sway, we don't apply for jobs interstate if we don't want to move there.

I think both. Noble's spray earlier in the season seems to have stuck with him and he made up his mind then.

yeah 100% agree. If you speak to Port supporters its all NM culture and everything will be perfect in SA for JHF. Speak to Kangas supporters and he was causing problems and that will be the same in SA.

Going to be an interesting watch for sure.

Will he spend more time in the forward line or in the midfield at PA. How will that compare to his split at the Kangas.

In fairness though you could expect the like of Rozee, Butters, Duursma, DBJ all to improve further.

Mate, he's going backwards.

Our midfield mix now has Houston, SPP, Drew, Farrell, Bergman, Rozee, Butters, JHF, Duursma, Jones, Sinn, Burgoyne. Oldest one is 24.

Will JHF get as much midfield time as he got at the Kangas.

Will JHF get as much midfield time as he got at the Kangas.

He didn't get much, part of his trouble was playing in the death zone as the high half forward as a 1st year player in the bottom team.

Northy's can confirm, but 70 forward / 30 mid about right?
