Colquhoun, 17, won SA's MVP award at this year's Under-18 championships, averaging 28 disposals off half-back. He had been expected to be a late first or early second-round national draft pick.

If he is that good why didnt you pick him up!!!!! Shows where Port are at at the moment...

Port were surprised he didn't get drafted at all, not surprised he wasnt drafted in the top 30. Port didn't have a pick below that as pointed out.

Not sure what is has to do with where Port are at at the moment.

I might be wrong, however I understand that even if Port took pick 37, they wouldn't have used it as they only had 3 spots on the list, with their third pick being #30. So they may as well be given pick number 200, it would have been just as useful.
Therefore, if you are getting nothing, why make it easier for BJ? Force him into the draft where he might be picked up by someone else before the roos and not get to his preferred club.

You're spot on Trader. Port were offerered nothing we could use in the draft. Anything lower than 30 was pointless. We were offered crap like Matt Campbell....who we could also get for....nothing.

Port could have delisted another dud, and had 4 picks in the first 37 though.

Oh the irony
You talk about Campbell being crap but you kept Hitchcock on your list.
Campbell would be better than a dozen players on Port's list

Dunno about a dozen, but I gotta agree with you on Hitchy! Hopefully he can prove us both wrong, though I doubt it :P

Again proof of where Port are at, sure they may have had no plans to use pick 37, but do they understand they could have traded it on?

At the end of the day it was an asset they could of had but didnt grab.

Or they set an example to the current list they won't gift them a ticket back home easily whenever they 'get home sick'

Depends what you think is more valuable?

Plus I suspect the club is trying to demonstrate to the other 17 clubs that it won't be a pushover in trade negotiations.

Player movement-wise, the club has had a very good off season (at least compared to previous regimes who had butchered the list over the years).

Wasn't that the rationale with Nick Stevens in 2003? We won't be pushovers in trade negotiations. All other clubs now know that you offer Port crap and they'll refuse it and you'll get the player you want for nothing! The Jacobs' "trade" just confirms it!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

From what I can tell Jacobs got back home and to his preferred club very easily, only loser is Port.

Its not ideal to lose a player for nothing obviously, but the greater mistake was drafting him in the first place. And thats more a reflection on the club, than Ben himself.
