Yarran isn't a backman.

Simpson isn't a backman.

Gibbs isn't a backman.

We desperately need backman, and in a hurry, whilst our "premiership window" (as our Saviour states) is open.

You state anything can happen in Sept. Since when has there been a major upset in the final series, where the 8th team (who just snuck in) has beaten anyone, anywhere, any time?

Yet stooofed!!! You're the biggest negative nancy out there. Don't pull your heart muscle. Do not take what I said too literally. Why have an 8 then based on what you say

Realistic mate. Not negative.

Need Laidler and or Duigan in form and playing in the backline. Tuohy has been a star (oh, sorry I'm supposed to be negative.....), ok, he's been sh1t (hehehehe) in the backline and given us a bit of mongrel. We've needed Watson to step up so we can release Hendo forward, which he has (well sorta - unproven against big beast forwards). We have to have Henderson forward otherwise we're knackered!

If I'm the big negative nancy, then you're the man with the rose coloured glasses on!

But I do agree on one thing, why have an 8?

Duigan and Laidler haven't been setting the VFL on fire. Duigan to be delisted at seasons end and Laidler to be traded. He's been playing forward in the reserves cos even in that comp his lack of pace is exposed.

A final 8 is just to generate revenue for the AFL.
They would have a final 16 if they could
5th to 8th are only there to make up the numbers.
Since the current top 8 format was introduced in 2000 I think only twice has a 5-8 ranked team made it to a Prelim final so history suggest its almost a foregone conclusion

Yes, Jim, once again, I'm in agreement. Everyone (esp Ch7, Foxtel) are so adamant that "Carlton are in the 8" yet realistically it superficially rewards incompetence and potentially gives false hope for the following year(s).

I'm tiring of the commentary that "Carlton are in the 8" after beating a side below us by a point, when realistically if we were any good, we would've won by 6 goals and also not been in the situation where we would be making up numbers by Rd 16. But nevertheless, I'll get fed the diatribe by the media and love it - cos hey, we're in the 8! :-)

I'm getting more and more convinced (because of the inaction by the AFL (may not be there fault however)) that Edison (as my 4yo son calls them) might finish up staying in the 8, meaning it's all irrelevant anyway. But I still do think Edison will finish up with a MASSIVE fine and draft picks "alleviated" from them for bring the game into disrepute.

Oh, btw, what a final that'd be - us (who can't hold a lead) vs North (who can't hold a lead) in a final! WOO HOO!

North are now the most unreliable team to tip. It'd suck to support them right now.
