Improve 8 spots every minor round and we'll do OK.
Might get our home ground for home finals soon too! :)

After finishing outside the eight, they were handed a soft draw. Also:

Recruited the brownlow medallist in Danger
Recruited a stopper in S Selwood
Recruited a key back/forward in Henderson
Recruited a no.1 ruck in Smith

This should equate to a GF berth minimum.

Nothing like opening an elevator door and tossing in a hand grenade just as it's about to close. :D

It's a fair assessment of a list with several older players who will leave in the next 12-24 months and leave some very big shoes to fill.

They have to give Carlton this years 1st round pick for Henderson.

Who replaces Bartel, Enright and Mackie, with Lonergan probably the year after?

Basically, bar Taylor, your back line.

Enrights the only one we have to replace next year. Mackie has been ordinary and Bartel has been playing all over the ground.
Henderson will slot nicely back there. Bewsy will improve.
I'm not expecting much from Ruggles though. Blitz or Duncan could fill a spot on the half back line.

Backs: Jed Bews, Tom Lonergan, Lachie Henderson

Half-backs: Jake Kolodjashnij, Harry Taylor, Ruggles/inanimate rod/Blitz/Duncan

Sounds like what went on at North this year, had to delist 4 veterans. Be interesting to see if Geelong do it any differently.

It's widely spoken about your mid tier players not doing as much as expected, lose 3-5 more top end ( which you will in the next year or so ) and those mid tier need to come on quickly and step up to be regular contributors.

Does Bartel (contracted) and Enright go on next year? Motlop a chance to leave they reckon as well, do the Cats do a kangaroos and go for Delideo/wells type or try and get back into the draft?

Enright should go on but looking at him after the game who knows what he wants to do. I would love for him to go again.

Bartel im torn about looked good middle of the year but just seems really slow now. He did contribute on Friday night so you cant knock him for that. Toss a coin really

Motlop is cooked, trade him for sure.

If we look at a Wells or Deledio we are really playing for next season and killing our development. So unless we can get either of them for next to nothing (not gonna happen) I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Motlop is a great footballer who would kick arse at the Bulldogs. He relies on space but we move the ball so slowly that by the time he gets it he has nowhere to run as all he sees is forest of opposition players. As long as we have Scott we can't have Motlop unless he suddenly brings in a gameplan that involves a bit more run, rather than the possession game he has tried to implement this season. He's basically trying to copy Clarko. Our whole list and gameplan appeared to be 'get over the Hawks' and we win the flag. It's about two years too late for that.

Motlop isn't cooked, but with our game plan, he's cooked at Geelong.

Enright is a no brainer. If he's not sure, do everything you can to keep him.

Bartel I don't see in the best 22 unless things go pear shaped, but it won't matter if that happens anyway. Not only looked slow, but more critically made bad decisions. Had a good second quarter in the prelim, but it seemed to be a massive effort just to end up being a contributor in the end. triggered a contract, but would surely miss out most weeks.

Motlop wouldn't have much currency now. Similar to Lobbe with Port, big demand at one point, but now that the club might be willing to move he's not going to be worth anywhere near his value 2 years ago. This would be a dilemma for a Geelong. At his best he is one thing everyone was saying Geelong needed. But if they can't get that from him, they might be best served seeing what they can get.

I think that Geelong need not just another solid mid, but another forward threat. Hawkins didn't have a great year, but still seemed like he was the only hope they had without Dangerfield going up there. Reckon there are a few seller's regrets over Steve Johnson.

Shit year Hawkins. 56 goals with no free kicks and two blokes hanging off him all year. The problem is gameplan, gameplan, gameplan.

Change of coach would be the best offseason trade the club could make.
His style is rubbish and he is too pig headed to do anything about it. Lost count of the ammount of times he said we will stick to our plan because our best will beat anyone. The Swans whacked you twice Scotty in case you didnt notice

On Steve Johnson. That was more than just a football decision. To me it made little sense to move Johnson on when our list was left two short. However, I've always been of the belief that Johnson produces his best football when he has something to prove. This year he had plenty to prove and played accordingly.

Also, Johnson has the turning circle of the Queen Mary these days and has trouble with the ball at Ground level, at the very least, in comparison with his prime. At a young running team such as GWS he can be more effective, at an older team that moves the ball as slowly as we do, he just doesn't have the time to reel out that massive bag of tricks.

In relation to his temperament, or 'more than just Football' we got a glimpse early on with Johnson at GWS when it looked like he was rolling out the Stevie J show. Burning a few team mates for low percentage plays...IMO he was told in no uncertain terms that as a future coach at the club he had to adopt a more team oriented approach and he did so for the majority of the year. The final act was a telling one. Johnson cost his side dearly by getting rubbed out for the Prelim Final, a match where his replacement Rhys Palmer was underwhelming to say the least. He cost his team by not being there and this is an example of his underlying selfishness, which to be fair, he has for the most part managed to stamp out.

I'm convinced there is no seller's regrets about Johnson at the club. With some Cat fans though it was a different matter. I was more pissed off about Chapman TBH.
