They can strip us of everything except our proud history and tradition. It won't set us back at all. Write this year off and get back into it next year. Just remember this could quite easily be Collingwood, Carlton, hawthorn or whatever mixed up in this so I think it is shameful for footy supporters to take the piss. I firmly believe that when a team training/medical official says to a young player that he is going to administer some sort of substance, that player or players have every right to believe that is authorised and above board. Essendon is a multi million dollar business, if you thing they are stupid enough to put this at risk by trying to cheat then you are not thinking straight. Just remember, it could be your club in this jam, so how would you react?

So you are saying that they embarked on this knowing that they will get sprung, face losing their points, their coaches, a Brownlow perhaps, severe embarrassment and financial imposition? They did this on purpose huh?

Certainly not taking the piss. Sift through the posts and you'll see I've said it's not good for the comp if they are devastated by sanctions.

On the other hand if they have played outside the rules they have cheated. That includes players who have authorised injections to be used. Yes they are young, yes they should trust the club but clearly they are responsible for what is put into their system as are all athletes. If there is a loop hole that allows players to be exempt from sanction. All the better for the comp.

In regards to how I would feel if it was my club. Well, we copped it big time for salary cap breach with the most severe penalty in history. I heard all about it then and still do. The infamous 'kreuzer cup' tanking is another one that rears its ugly unfounded head still. I learnt to get over it. You should too. People will talk about it. Some will take the piss. That's life, move on.

Maybe they were thinking like the bank robber who thinks they won't get caught when they rob the bank. If you think you're going to get caught you wouldn't do it in the first place...

Oh yeah I'm ready for it and will have no concerns about copping whatever comes our way. And I never had a go at Carlton over the salary cap issue. I thought it was a shame but breathed a sigh of relief that Essendon wasn't involved.
Anyway, I would not be one bit surprised if bugger all happens apart from some terse words and stern warnings. I also would not be surprised to see it end up in the Supreme Court if it gets untidy. If it gets to that and Essendon calls for donations to set up a fighting fund I'd drop $1000 in without hesitation.

Agreed Days, wont get off scott free.
At best im hoping for a big fine and loss of picks with maybe some points lost.
Fearing a greater penalty but was told on Saturday by someone in the know that Essendon have already hired the services of a QC and are prepared to take it to the highest courts.
Has been talk of seeking an injunction until after finals but I hope we dont go down this path. Need an answer before finals

Of course they have already hired a QC. Didn't need someone "in the know" to break that news.

If it does make it to the courts and things get uglier than they are now the AFL would finally have to step in and say something. I keep saying the AFL dont want to be seen as the "bad guys" but they will, at some point, have to make a statement on the penalties to follow.

It certainly needs to be finalised before the AFL finals begin, would be a joke if court action kept a club playing in the finals. Joke.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

The board and coaching staff had a meeting and decided to cheat so it was no accident

If I were an AFL player that was asked to sign a form before undergoing injections of something I'd never heard of, I'm pretty sure I'd look into it before signing it. That alone would set off suspicions for me.

If Shane Warne can cop a year for a one off taking of a banned substance, whether he knew it or not, then anyone involved in this has to cop that or more as a penalty. Anything less makes a mockery of the penalties.

It was a systematic effort to gain an advantage from a banned substance, whether or not they knew it was banned is inconsequential. The onus is on them to know what they are putting into their bodies and the club is incredibly stupid if they relied on the confirmation of one man, with a questionable history, to confirm that it was fine.

Hope you are all watching AFL360 tonight
In breaking news ASADA has announced that according to them AOD was perfectly legal last year and told Essendon it was safe to use. Essendon players will not receive infringement notices.
Andy D will be on the show soon but the media are already doing backflips
