His father only played about 30-40 games for North

I thought it was 60 odd? Whats the required number for F/S eligibility?

Ridiculous. North have shown they're not that far away with so many close results this year.
We'll be guaranteed a soft draw next year and are due for a good run without so many injuries. (Port are a case in point, easier draw & no injuries, look at the difference it makes). We've blooded 9 debutants this year & have played all but 8 on our entire list. Short term pain. I expect a quick turnaround & hopefully a push for finals again next year.

There's 17 ( in reality about 10-12 ) other teams in the same race, it isn't all about your list alone. IMO opinion every side bar Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood and the Suns have a better outlook over the next 3-5 years than you.*

Right now you rely on too few for too much, Higgins, Thompson, Tarrant, Goldstein, Swallow, Ziebell, Waite....none of them have their best footy ahead of them in the next 2-3. You're very reliant on all the youth coming through, there's reason to be optimistic when there's kids coming in but their form as we all know can be very fickle and some make it and some don't.

*Edit*

Unless you land Kelly.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Yeah, you're right, that would be far more important than the future for a free agent.

You see no finals for us in the next 9 years then?

North have zero elite players on their list. Ben Brown is the only one that looks likely to change that in the next few years.

Lots of pain coming up for North imo. They deliver workmanlike performances which is why they are in so many close games, but they lack the talent to win those games

Probably 3-4 years before North play finals which would still give him 5 years of having a crack. I just can't see him leaving yet, has spent most of his career at a bottom side, why bail out when they are on the cusp of a flag?
I reckon he re-signs for 2-3 years at GWS and then takes a big pay day back in Melbourne

if hes any good, which he will be, he wont be missing out on any coin doing this either, as he could still sign a 6 year deal later on. In fact he might even get more cash if he continues with his current form

Geez you talk shit sometimes.
Things turn around very quickly in this game. To say a team is 3,4 or 5 years away from finals is ludicrous.

rubbish, all of those teams you mentioned had very different list profiles to North's current list.

Go back & have a good look at those lists benny.
Melb & StK went 4-18 in 2014. No one was predicting finals anytime soon for them let alone a flag the Dogs who finished only percentage out of the bottom 4.

I could see tons of promise in the kids of both those sides. I don't see that yet with North, maybe they come on a bit next year

Maybe 3-4 from now you may have enough depth to get into a regular finals berth. I don't think you will over the next 2-3. Like I said before, there's 10 other sides outside the 8 right at the moment and they're doing what you're doing, trying to get back into the 8 and I have most of them ahead of you in that race.

You and Spargo have reason to be optimistic ( who would follow footy if you weren't ) but I think a hell of a lot rests on your youngsters and we know that plenty of them simply don't make it. Some do, some might, some won't and the guys you rely heavily on now are late 20's > early 30's 2-3 from now.

As Jim notes, he ( Kelly ) has toughed out some bottom 4 action with the Giants over the last 5 years, I doubt he's keen on more.

They didn't have to throw 2000 games experience out the door all at once though, did they?
