I've got this first hand, umpires on Saturday night were told by Adelaide Oval security to stay in their change rooms until the crowd had left the venue. They then left by walking across the oval where their bus then picked them up and took them to their city hotel. It is here that they were escorted off the bus by police on horseback to their accommodation.

You'd be hard pressed to find an umpire any where in this country would have not paid that... In real time it was a certain free.

I agree with you, but I still would have waited till morning! Did you see the responses as they were leaving the game? One dude was taking it out on the fencing!

On the money I reckon .. Liked Gerard Whately's take on it last night that it was almost an un-umpirable situation given the speed at which it occurred and the positioning (which I understand was correct) of the 3 umps.

Yeah, the way shuey spun was away from the umpires so it made it even harder for them to see whether he lifted the arm or not.

Watching it live i thought it was a definite free. In slo mo you can see how one could argue that it wasn't but it's bloody hard to umpire that

Shuey ironically was hit high minutes earlier in the middle but was pinged for holding the ball as the umpire was on the blindside.
I also thought Hartlett was a tad fortunate to receive a free for running into Petrie's arm, but it should have definitely been reversed when Pittard came in & remonstrated.
These were just a couple in a night where I thought Port got a real good run from the umpires.

Not to mention Wingard's goal which, if not touched, was certainly a chance of being kicking in danger.

He has copped a fair bit since he came back from his knee reco. Has taken a long time to get back to anyting near the player he was. but I reckon that footage will be played a few times over the week in the eagles camp. He threw his own safety out the window when he was smashed into the post. Saved the game. Unbelievable thing to do.

Ironically it was the most deliberate out of bounds for the whole night that wasn't called!

I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere, but on MacKenzie's effort, the ball wasn't out of bounds until he dragged it over, and wasn't called for hitting the post.

Had the umpire made the correct initial call when the ball touched the post, he wouldn't have had to drag it over..

Unbelievable effort, and if that ever got punished, it would absolutely destroy the fabric of our game

Happened in extra time, if the initial free was paid then it never happens.
