The Saints couldn't get Shiel with pick 4 but I'd certainly be taking that if I were Port.

Wingard has to want to go there.
They offered $1.3m a year to Shiel though so perhaps Chad could be swayed

If they pick up Hannebury, I can't see them having a tilt at the top 8 next year so that could be money for Jam for him. It depends what he wants.

Well he is uncontracted and happy to be swapped for a pick in the 60’s so I doubt he’s gonna be a match winner, maybe that famous ‘bloods culture’ can turn him into a decent player. If it doesn’t, oh well, didn’t give up much to get him.

Why would you ask a North supporter? Everyone knows when a player leaves a club they are a spud ;)

Blood culture died when Brett Kirk did that before the game interview when working
For Channel 7 where he sounded like a total fruitcake.

Or when they became the Sydney Swans, one of the two.

Would have happily kept him but not fussed to see him go. I was hoping rumours of the straight swap for Nic Newman were true though.

I like to put them in this order
1- Kirk Interview
2- Franklin
3- Becoming the Swans

Oh well.

LEVI Casboult is set to pull a Carlton jumper on again in 2019.

Casboult has been the subject of trade speculation despite having a year to run on his contract. But Carlton list boss Stephen Silvagni said a trade was unlikely.

"We haven't had too many approaches from clubs so at the minute it looks more likely that he will be here than playing at another club," he said on Trade Radio.

Silvagni said a deal for Alex Fasolo should be done before the end of tomorrow and the Blues were working with GWS on a trade for Will Setterfield.

He also provided updates on several other players:

Mitch McGovern – did Carlton pay too much?

"I guess we'll see how he performs in the next 12-24 months, that will tell the story.

"We thought that those two picks (26 and 28) were going to have to be part of the deal so that was always part of our planning."

The Blues missed out on Dylan Shiel, with Silvagni saying a trade with GWS would have involved the Blues' 2019 future first round pick.

"So we just have to make sure when we go to the draft next year we pick a better player than Dylan Shiel".

Silvagni also discussed:

Ciarán Byrne – is he coming back from Ireland?

"At this stage, it's an unknown … he gets terribly homesick. When he gets home, he finds it incredibly hard to come back. It's looking a bit grim at the moment, but we're still working to get him back here.

Trading pick one?

"It's highly unlikely. We've had a few clubs (ask about pick one) and you never say no. We were receptive in terms of suggestions and all that so it's not as if it's off the table, but it would have to be a very good deal."

Is Sam Walsh a lock for pick one?

"I think we've got three or four players there that we rate very highly so we'll see what happens."

Just a touch longer...

he inauguration date of the club is officially 19 June 1874, and it adopted the name "South Melbourne Football Club" four weeks later, on 15 July.[6] In 1880, South Melbourne amalgamated with the nearby Albert-park Football Club, which had a senior football history dating back to May 1867 (Albert-park had, in fact, been known as South Melbourne during its first year of existence).[7][8] Following the amalgamation, the club retained the name South Melbourne, and adopted the club's now familiar red and white colours from Albert-park.[9] Nicknamed the "Southerners", the team was more colourfully known as the "Bloods", in reference to the bright red sash on their white jumpers[10][11] (the sash was replaced with a red "V" in 1932).[12] The colorful epithet the "Bloodstained Angels" was also in use. The club was based at Lake Oval, also home of the South Melbourne Cricket Club.
