I don't know about you guy's but I can't recall a year with so many retirements

Roo - Adelaide
Archer - Kanga's
Hird - Essendon
C Scott - Lions
Darryl Wakelin and Josh Mahoney - Power
Matthew Lappin and Kouta -Carlton
Nathan Brown and Clint Bizzell - Melbournne
Matthew Robbins, Luke Darcy - WB
Ray Hall, Trent Knobel and Kent Kingsley - Tigers
Troy Cook, Shane Parker - Freo

I would of thought Wakelin, Mahoney, C Scott, Robbins, Kingsley, Hall, Knobel, Cook and Bizzell all would of been de-listed if they did not retire

In additiion, The G Train, Harvey, Darcy, Buckley and Bell would all be considering retirement

Congrats to all on great careers

That would have to be close to some sort of record...

Getting rid of more of the dead wood at Tiger Land, why we picked up Kingsley I'll never know!

Chris Scott

Well done to Chris Scott on his career. He was restricted severely by injuries after 2002.

Clubs: Brisbane Bears 1994-1996; Brisbane Lions 1997-2007.
214 games (final senior game Rd. 21 2007 vs. Adelaide)
79 goals
AFL Finals: 16 (Brisbane Bears - 4, Brisbane Lions - 12)
Brisbane Lions Best and Fairest 1998
Winner AFL Norwich Rising Star Award 1994,
Brisbane Lions vice-captain 1999-2004,
Premiership Player 2001-2002,
Member of Lions Grand Final Side 2004
Brisbane Lions Life Member 2003.

Last Royboy, Chris Johnson is also likely to continue on in 2008.

Edit: Well Chris Johnson told me he was likely to continue for 2008 at the 'Kings of the Pride reunion'. Now it appears he has changed his mind, (or perhaps it was suggested he changed his mind) and has retired.

And there goes the last Royboy :( :(

Wish I could bloody well retire. Bloody Chris Scott. I couldn't get a seat at the Gabba because all of the Brisbanites snapped up all the seats to give him a send off.

regards,

REB

'Injuries' was the reason he gave in an interview the other day

The old 'body has had enough' thing ....

He probably has. Getting too hard - symptomatic of his career I reckon.

Although playing at Carlton for the past six or so years would've done me in too, the situation those players have been in.

Not to mention Warne, McGrath and Langer!

A huge year to lose so many Aussie sporting greats.

It's a sellout?
Not bad for a side that realistically has no finals chance and just the send off factor.

Get in quick next time REB!

I'm getting to the age where even the old players don't seem that old. :(

And I'm with you, REB - I wish I could retire too.

Weighing more little more than a wet sheet wouldn't have helped him either... He spoke to Ratts, and obviously the message was that he may not of seen as much game time next year as he'd like....

Are you saying his size limited what he could achieve in his career, or are you saying it would be hampering him now...

The average age of an AFL player is getting younger each year and their career-span is getting shorter

Get past 30 and unless you are an out and out star, don't expect to stay on a list much longer

Look at the clean out going on that started this thread

I agree Hondo, but unlike say the Crows or a Port, Carlton are very thin on leadership quality blokes. If Whitnall goes as is the hot rumour, it leaves Heath Scotland, Nick Stevens and Fev as our oldest players...two of those blokes aren't exactly upstanding citizens :?

LOL yeah agreed, but I thought he would have been young enough to try again elsewhere as opposed to retiring
