"Origin" Captains named for May 10, 2008!

I was dumbfounded when I saw sports Tonight announce that the Victorian Team for the "origin" game next year will be captained by Jonathan Brown, and the "Dream Team" will be captained by Andrew McLeod.
What if either are injured on May 10 next year?
What if either are suspended?
What if their form doesn't warrant selection? (eg have been in and out due to injury and/or suspension)
What if either player gets in significant 'trouble' between now and then?
What input (if any) did the coaches have (Bomber Thomson and Mark Williams)
No input obviously from team mates in this age of empowerment - unless the other players have all been selected already as well!
Strange - seems like it was a grab for publicity at a time when soccer is getting limelight with David Beckham in town this week....

I was slightly confused when I saw this as well. I couldn't believe that they would announce the captain 6 months before the game is even played!
What concerned me more is that what if McLeods form doesn't warrant selection? He will still be picked and keep a better player out of the side?? I am not really a fan of this "dream team" format, but I still want to see them smash Victoria.

Who cares really, this game is a joke and again something all for Victorians, I don't agree with Graham Cornes too often, if at all but this time I make an exception to that rule

The only reason the AFL invented the 'Allies' team back in the old State of Origin concept was so
that Wayne Carey wouldn't wear the Croweater's guernsey!
Pure Victorian arrogance!
Hence the ludicrous father-son ruling in the AFL draft totally shafting both the SANFL & WAFL respectively!
...& I'm a Bombers supporter, but fair's fair!

I thought it was the South Australians moaning to all and sundry about Dunstall in a Victorian Jumper well before that!
Pure South Australian hysteria!

Yeah - a totally insignificant and meaningless game - but I may watch it on TV if I'm still in Oz and have nothing else more interesting to at the time.

Maybe Channel Nine could put an NRL game on at the same time, it might at least give the NRL the chance to profile the game in S.A.

Play a game live at Adelaide Oval on this day. There is no way I'm going to watch a team of Hybrids play a second string Victorian side.
This game is crap, and IMO, if Carlton let Judd or Fev play I'd be pissed, as I would if I supported say the Crows and they let McLeod and Goodwin play.
The AFL clubs will have "injuries" as it is a nothing game. If the Vics played SA though...bring it on !!

Probably a combination of a lot of the aforementioned reasons why SOO died but if meaningless generalisations make you feel good why not chuck in a few more
really original and humorous ones as well

Will be interesting, the AFL has said today that if players dont make themselves available then they may be suspended for the next home and away game for there club.

Apparently the match payments are to be donated to the retired AFL - VFL players rehabilitation association. Naturally this excludes any SANFL or WAFL player....

I also rekon that it will be a tough call for Choko when it comes time for selection as well - How many Port players will he choose or leave out ???

won't be hard for him at all, his players will all of a sudden have these unreported injury concerns, similar to finals time in the SANFL
