Adelaide or West Lakes Crows?

Does anyone find the name "Adelaide Crows" innapropriate?

Given they are based at West Lakes, & not in Adelaide itself (& never have been), I find it a curious choice of name.

What name do you think would be more appropriate for the Crows?
- West Lakes Crows
- Southern Crows
- Western Crows
- Glenelg-Norwood Crows

Not me !!!

When they first started I jumped on cause they were the states team in the AFL competition and I thought Adelaide was appropriate but saying that if they were the Southern Crows I would of still jumped on.

The Jolimont Magpies given that Collingwood made the decision to cut their ties with their area??

The Waverley Hawks, the Frankston Saints....

In the modern day AFL footy industry names represent football clubs not suburbs.

A good philosophical arguement but majority of Crows fans spread around the entire Adelaide Metropolitan area and drawing on teh support from all SANFL clubs probably don't care where they are based or train, they are from Adelaide itself...

But unlike the Crows, they all had links with their name at some stage...

This thread is a genuine philosophical discussion, & not a cheap shot at the Crows

I guess if the Crows moved their training base to Adelaide Oval, or a new Stadium built on Adelaide (finges) was the Crows home base, then end of debate.

Ridiculous. Adelaide drew from and represent each SANFL club. Saying that they are based in West Lakes not Adelaide is purely pedantic. West Lakes is still in Adelaide anyway, and where were their premiership parades held.

Have fun supporting the Prospect Roosters this year.

And suddenly, another new contender has emerged.

I was being genuine Punky, using the example of how clubs may be physically located in an area that may not correlate with their name.

Andy #24, is there something you're not understanding?
Missing chromosome perhaps?
Kilburn BBQ fried too many of your brain cells?

North Adelaide have roots with Medindie, which neighbours the suburb of North Adelaide- Leaping Lindner could give a blow by blow description of this.

I realise that, but I was also pointing out my post was genuine & this topic I started was not a trolling exercise- hence my standard sledges of "fruit loops, Cows" etc have not been mentioned

If someone from interstate asks me where im from, i say 'Adelaide', not the actual suburb i reside in.

Should the 36ers change their name to the 'Beverley 36ers', Adelaide United to 'Hindmarsh United'?

Mate, i think there is an element of trolling here for sure

IMO I think the "Adelaide Crows" is OK.
Even though I don't like them too much. If I could change anything it'd be to take them
out of the state colours (different blue I know).

Punky with all due respect you are (in)famous on the AFL Board for your passionate hatred of the Crows

In your post the only argument against using Adelaide was that their home ground is at West Lakes.

Therefore, I assume you also think:

- the WCE be ranamed the Subiaco Eagles
- the Swans be renamed the Moore Park Swans
- Collingwood be renamed the Melbourne Magpies because they play their home games at the MCG
- Port Adelaide should also be named the West Lakes Power

As for Glenelg-Norwood Crows :? :? :?

The Crows were the SANFL's 1st representative team in the AFL so it has to be Adelaide. They don't represent any 1 region of Adelaide any more than another.

Adelaide is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of South Australia, and is the fifth-largest city in Australia, with a population of over 1.1 million in 2006.[1][2] It is a coastal city situated on eastern side of Gulf St. Vincent on the Adelaide Plains, north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, and west of the Mount Lofty Ranges, which rise to around 700 metres (2,300 ft).

Adelaide is located north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, on the Adelaide Plains between the Gulf St Vincent and the low-lying Mount Lofty Ranges. The city stretches 20 km from the coast to the foothills, and 90 km from Gawler at its northern extent to Sellicks Beach in the south. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Adelaide Metropolitan Region has a total land area of 870 km², and is at an average elevation of 50 metres above sea level.

Distinguishing the two teams as "Adelaide" and "Port Adelaide" seems reasonable to me, in the context of a national league where terms like "West Lakes" or other suburban descriptors would be meaningless to many viewers or attendees, and terms like "Southern" would invite "Southern Where??"

In the SANFL the more specific suburban locale would be appropriate.

I think you've hit the nail on the hed Psyber with your last line.
I was only putting it out there for discussion- I think the Crows would be of benefit being based at Adelaide itself though, especially if they ever build a World Class Satdium close to the city.

The SA Govt has kicked in too much money in recent times to AAMI Stadium to think the home of Adelaide AFL Footy will be anywhere other than West Lakes

Personally I agree with Punky I think the we should have a stadium in the city limits (like Melbourne x 2) but I can't see it happenning anytime soon
