For those of you who had the pleasure/misfortune (depending on your view point) to see Wayne Carey's interview with Andrew Denton. There are only three conclusions i can come to after watching that sad excuse for tv...(yes i'm a sucker for watching it)...

1/ Wayne Carey is a compulsive liar??

2/ he is the most unlucky bloke in the World?

or

3/ Suffers from a mental illness which inhibits his memory??

your thoughts???

I did feel sorry for him, but there's no doubt he told some "white lies" the other night.

Was indeed compulsive viewing.

Love the way Andrew Denton questions people "Some people would find it hard to believe that you gave a character witness to Jason Moran without knowing what he was charged with"

If anything comes out to prove he lied, such as a photo of him and the Morans socialising, or proof that someone was paid for the New Idea articles, then we can only assume that he was lieing about the big issues as well.

Felt sorry for his sister, but IIRC hasn't his brother Dick Carey been in all sorts of strife himself over the years?

Also one of the posters on this site (no, not me) is absolutely 100% convinced that there is a lot more to the Stamford Glenelg "incident" then the Crows are willing to admit. And the fact that he had a direct involvement may have something to do with his opinion...

and further to this thread the sad part is Carey really isnt doing himself any favours the constant state of denile over every incident that has ever happened only detracts from the fact he was a brilliant footballer....

Wayne get yourself some professional help!!!

You never made a mistake?

lets not forget most footballers never really hit the "real world" that we live in, straight from school they are paid plenty and put on a pedistal by thousands, when they retire they dont necessarily have the business smarts to continue on to be successful out of the spotlight...

you said you have some to some conclusions, please expand on them...

I think he is only just starting on his recovery and realisation of the impact of his actions & decisions over the last 15 years. As a fellow human being I hope he works through it all and some good comes from his experiences.

He said he has hardly worked through the impact of leaving the Kangaroos for example. Archer said for the first time he saw Carey express some remorse over that whole incident and that Carey's lack of remorse was one of the reasons they obviously still aren't talking. I hope part of his recovery is going to the club and seeking out Stevens and Archer and saying sorry and facing up to his actions.

I finished watching not knowing what to make of it all other than he is clearly very mixed up and unsure of where to go next. It was good to see the strong family support, especially from his sister. I too found some of his answers difficult to believe and thought it was interesting that he admitted he often woke up not remembering the night before yet he claimed he was certain that some of the alleged incidents never happened. Denton was smart enough to ask him how could be so sure if he can't remember so many of his nights out.

The most telling moment for me was at the end when Denton & Carey shook hands. For the first time I saw Wayne as a broken man defeated in battle, after winning every one on the footy field. He sort of nodded awkardly and cowed his head, Denton was in complete control.

Not sure what these public humiliations are achieving but if it helps him get better then so be it.

Still the greatest player I have ever seen play the game.

IMO, I thought Carey looked uncomfortable. Some on his answers to the
questions asked by Denton, were answered too quickly as if in denial.

Hope he is getting the help, he said he was, as he was a top footballer
and deserves to get his act together.

Best part of the interview..blaming Stevens' missus for the toilet thing !

Dutchy...yes i have made mistakes but not like Mr Carey and when i have made em at least i have the balls to admit it, tragically Mr Carey cant or wont do that!!!..........which is the really sad part, yes alot of footballer live in a bubble but less than 1% end up or turn out like Mr Carey.......................FFS wot does it take for this guy to admit "i stuffed up" ...........he's turning into a laughing stock!!!

Never once during the interview did Wayne Carey say cocaine. All he said was he took drugs.

He will only get his life on track when he truly acknowledges and understands what he did wrong and accepts responsibility for his actions without blaming anybody else.

This has to be done out of the public gaze.

You can only fix what you acknowledge

Honestly, Carey has only done three bad things over 15 years of footy. Grabbing the girls tits in 94, shagging Stevens' missus and glassing his girlfriend(if this even happened). These things happen in society all the time. The drugs and alcohol path is easy to slip down in the circles Carey would move in. Our culture even glamourises abusing substances. I could name loads of people who are considered good blokes but objectively behave as bad as Carey.

Dog_ger is completely right, get of his back.

I think you mean he has only been caught, or not effectively covered up for, three times.
I do agree though he has been the best player I have seen overall.
Our society does glamourise drug abuse [including alcohol] because it suits commercial interests - something needs to be done to stop that before it becomes even more widely accepted as normal....

:? Where did I mention Carey's sins. I gave my thoughts
about Carey's interview, not on the man himself.

Dogger............

the incidents you have refered to are serious stuff lets face it he is his own worst enemy..........

1/ he's had to resign from North Melbourne..

2/ faces charges in the states

3/ and been arrested in Melbourne with the police having to use capsicum spray...

mate thats very serious stuff......certainly not to be taken lightly...
the sad part it has greatly overshadowed the fact he was one of the greatest players the game has ever produced.......

but if you saw the interview on Denton, Carey appears to be still very much in denile......which only further reflects on his credibility.....
