What do you expect from the two most possession happy teams in the league. The Crows are a giant snoozefest and Freo are a basketball side. If you want to watch real football you don't have to look any further than Geelong vs. Bulldogs, which was a great game.

REB

REB,

At one stage Freo had all 18 players behind the ball, if side do this what elso can opposition side do, you have to hold on to the footy, no point just kicking it up the line and handing them the footy..........

Why is everyone raving about the Geelong v Bulldogs game?
I watched it in its entirity and thought it was ordinary to watch, the Cats short sideways and backwards crap was awful to watch. The Bulldogs occasionally opened up the game and played some

I'm not having a go at Bomber Thompson as its the only game he could play with the players they had out and when they have a full squad they play a different game BUT most of the game yesterday was ball ups or backwards/sideways crap. Awful to watch. Thaks to the Bulldogs for making it bearable with some great passages of running footy.

It didn't even rate as far as spectacles go to the game on Friday night at Adelaide Oval but then again most people are brainwashed that every close game is a good game where games with big margins can't be. No idea.

Overrated crap is spot on spelly. I struggle to sit through a full game of AFL even when its the Cats playing.

It's a big improvement over water-polo.

One day they might actually start playing some footy.

Yes, I disagree with you..funny, you get that on a forum. So if I don't agree with the oracle I obviously know nothing about football.

Agreed that it wasn't that bad, but my point was it sure as hell wasn't as good as a lot of people made it out to be.

The game got better as it went on IMO. Newman spat the chewie and walked out at half time and missed a top game.

Yeah i heard that as well REB. He has been pretty vocal in talking about the state of the game. He has rasied some good points. Sometimes the game is terrible to watch.

I don't blame him, the South v Port game was better to watch.

Don't get me wrong, as far as AFL games it was definately in the top 50% of games to watch but the AFL as a spectacle is at an all time low.
I giggle at people who claim the AFL is the best comp to watch because it has the best players and has so much media coverage.
As a spectacle I'd rather watch most A5 games.
It's orientated at the theatre goers with no idea and they lap it up.

It's ironic that the year my team is a really good chance at going the whole way is the year I'm so non plussed by the entire competition.
I'd honestly rather a watch a good Rugby League or Union game instead of the AFL. Its absolute crap.
Thank christ for the SANFL!!!

Hell, a decent game of lawn bowls would be more of a spectacle than the crap played in the AFL these days!

???????????

The Bulldogs and Geelong game was a terrific match, and a thriller.
The gap at every siren was less then a goal.
One team was just lucky enough to be in the lead when the final siren blew.

Was high scoring, over 190 points scored. So fierce tackles + bumps, some great attacking and some great defending (see B Harris, the dogs fb was bog).

Incidentally, the first time the dogs haven't scored over 100 points for about 10-12 matches. I have a DVD of every Dog's game this year, their attacking play and precise foot skills IS as good as footy gets.

Because there are people in the media being paid huge salaries, and it is in their best interests to report on the game as though footy has never been better. The only reason the Bulldogs v Cats game rates is because it was close all day which made it interesting. I really feel sorry for footy fans under 30, they never knew the game as it should be played.

May I be correct in assuming you are under 30 years of age? Yes, the Bulldogs play footy "as good as it gets". Sadly, it's not as good as the game used to be.

May I be correct in assuming you are over 60 years of age? This 'back in my day' stuff is just rubbish. The game will evolve even as the season progresses as umpires adjust. AFL needs some minor readjustments, bring back the contest, piss off all this 'faster faster'* stuff that promotes tempo football so the players can get a breather and stop changing the bloody rules every year.

Have a look at some of the 'Fox Footy Vault" footage or the endless 'Winners' episodes, the only thing better about football back then was there were more one on one contests but it was stop-start stuff with plenty of players trying to extract the ball from the slop on a suburban 5hithole. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be mon ami. Perhaps you could join your fellow conscientious objecter Wedgie at a Lawn Bowls match or the brilliant spectacle that is rugby league.

REB

*specifics: Kick in before the flags stop waving, Extended interchange benches..these amendments have done a lot to speed up the game but sooner or later the players get bu99ered and have to take a breather. Reduce the bench, piss off the stupid NAB rule and give the defenders a chance to defend and the game will be all the better for it.
