Despite all the for's & against's, there's been no poll on this controversial matter. So here it is....

Although freo should have won. The umpire didn't hear the siren, so it's play on until the umpire does hear it. Draw - end of discusion.

I've decided that the AFL has done the right thing in awarding Freo the game. My reasoning is- if it had been a few seconds, bad luck, cop it on the chin. The paper states that an extra 26 seconds occurred- no one should be expected to wear that.
A precedent has been set for these circumstances anyway- ironically, by St Kilda (talk about coming back to bite you on the bum

).

I expect a result which splits the footy community down the middle - a no-win for the AFL.

I think what would have made it MORE interesting is if Baker kicked the goal with the bonus kick! Then it would have been a Saints win changed (in theory) to a Freo win, not a draw to a win.

From the AFL web site:
10.4 BRINGING PLAY TO AN END
10.4.1 End of Quarter
The Timekeepers shall sound the siren to signal the end of a quarter
until a field Umpire acknowledges that the siren has been heard and
brings play to an end.
It wasn't a matter of the umpires not hearing it as the timekeeper didn't keep his finger on the button until it was heard.

After finally seeing the footage, the AFL have got this one right. End of story.

I went the draw. Umpires word should be final. Leave it on the oval on game day. Everyone hate umpires.
Don't play AFL on sub-standard grounds. A poor siren makes a sub-standard ground. Only play AFL on accredited venues..?

The AFL programmed a match there, they've accredited it.
